About 22 minutes by car from Naha Airport. Located near Shikinaen in Naha City, it is a select store that gathers “good things from Okinawa” all in one place. You can find good things of Okinawa only in the relaxing area called Shikinaen. It is a perfect place to look for selected souvenirs.

Point 1: What is the location of “Gallery Haraiso Shikinaen”?

Gallery Haraiso Shikinaen” is located about 22 minutes from Naha Airport. Located in Shikinaen, east of Naha City and close to Shuri Castle, it is a craft store that collects “good things from Okinawa.

Shikinaen used to be not only a recreation area but also a place to entertain the envoys of the Chinese emperor, and has a 42,000 m2 garden.

It is a 42,000 square-meter garden that still attracts visitors today, with an atmosphere as serene and charming as that of Kyoto.

The Gallary Haraiso Shikmeien is located close to the Shikmeien Garden.

Visitors can choose from a wide variety of Okinawan crafts in a relaxing atmosphere.

Point 2: What are the main products of “Gallery Haraiso Shikinaen”?

Gallery Haraiso Shikinaen sells mainly Okinawan yachimun (pottery) and Ryukyu glassware.

The yachimun, which have been nurtured over 6,600 years of history, range from simple and tasteful pieces such as kohiki and yakijime, to “cute” pieces that are easily accepted by younger customers.

In addition, to meet current needs and trends, we have a wide variety of Ryukyu glassware made from recycled waste glass from cola and awamori, not only plates and tumblers, but also flower vases, pitchers, and bowls.

It is wonderful that they are willing to try new things while maintaining their traditions.

Point 3: What are the other products of “Gallery Haraiso Shikinaen”?

Gallery Haraiso Shikinaen also carries Bingata and Ryukyu indigo textiles, rare Ryukyu tinware, Ryukyu lacquer, woodwork, and grass weaving.

Many stores sell yachimun and glass, but not so many sell other items! It is worth it just to look at them.

Tin, in particular, had a history in the Ryukyu Dynasty when it was used as a drinking vessel by those of high rank, but it died out about 100 years ago due to the lack of successors.
