Approximately 19 minutes by car from Naha Airport. Located at Umikazi Terrace on Senaga Island, this store specializes in fresh maritotzzo. The fresh cream-filled maritotzzo includes Okinawan ingredients such as red potatoes and brown sugar, as well as standard maritotzzo such as mango, berry, and tiramisu! Drinks, soft-serve ice cream, and parfaits are also available!
Point 1: What is the location where “gatto” is located?
gatto” is located in Umikaji Terrace, a popular spot only 19 minutes by car from Naha Airport.
This facility is inspired by the seaside of Greece and Italy, and is also called the “Amalfi of Japan.” This seaside facility attracts as many as 3.3 million visitors a year.
The sloping terrain is dotted with stylish stores, all of which you will want to enter!
One of them is this “gatto.
Many of the stores are semi-open-air, with terrace seating to enjoy the view of the ocean.
Point 2: What is the recommended menu at “gatto”?
gatto” is a specialty store that sells an original arrangement of the Italian dessert maritozzo. Maritozzo specialty stores are quite rare, and not only in Okinawa.
On the menu are “Thick Beni Imo” (680 yen) for its Okinawan characteristics, and “Uchina Zenzai” (580 yen) with the irresistible flavors of bean paste, soybean flour, brown sugar, and whipped cream.
The “Il Gatto” (480 yen), a pistachio and bellerie in the beautiful colors of the Italian flag tricolore, and the “Enchanting Tiramisu” with the irresistible harmony of cacao, espresso, and cream cheese are all so delicious that it is hard to choose just one.
There are also four kinds of berries, one with mango, one with pistachio, and others.
The two Okinawan-style maritozzos are not to be missed, but if you want to enjoy a classic Italian maritozzo, why not try Il Gatto or Tiramisu?
These maritozzos are made with fresh cream and have a “best before” date of 10 minutes so that the choux can be enjoyed at its best. Try them on the spot if you can!
Point 3: What else is on the menu at “gatto” besides maritozzo?
In addition to marittozzo, Gatto also offers drinks, soft-serve ice cream, and parfaits.
Drinks include Okinawa’s classic sanpincha (350 yen), mango, guava, and pink grapefruit juice with fresh cream (500 yen), coffee (450 yen), cafe latte (550 yen), and beer such as Orion (600~700 yen).
The “Quattro Parfait” (Tall 980 yen, Grande 1,580 yen), pictured here, is a unique combination of strawberries, vanilla ice cream, mixed berries, mini marittozos, chinsuko, caramelized strawberries, and strawberry espuma cream.
Other parfaits include red sweet potato and Uchina Zenzai, which are equally appealing in their presentation.
Although the prices are high, I would like to try them as a souvenir of my trip.
