About 30 minutes by car from Naha Airport. Located near Route 58 in Ginowan City is a tart specialty store, also known as a “tart shop. It is nice to know that you can buy various kinds of tarts for 500 yen. It is an area where one tends to speed, so do not overlook it.
Point 1: What is the location of the “Tart Shop”?
Tart Shop” is located along Route 58 in Ginowan City, central Okinawa Island.
A little further north is the popular “Ginowan Hills Street,” an area where many new stores are being built on land returned from the U.S. military.
As the name suggests, “Tart Shop” specializes in tarts, and you can buy all tarts of about 18 cm in length for only 500 yen!
When it first opened, the store looked suspiciously like an old store with a red lantern on the exterior, but it has finally been moved to a cute white store that seems to be popular with girls.
The reason for the red lanterns is that in the beginning, due to a lack of funds, they had to rent the storefront of a relative’s izakaya (Japanese-style pub) only during the daytime. It is also unique that they kept the red chochin as it was!
Point 2: What types of tarts are available at the “Tart Shop”?
There are a total of seven types of tarts at “Tart Shop.
The most popular among them is the “Kintoki-mame and custard cream” tart. Kintoki-mame is a very popular bean in Okinawa, and is also used in Okinawan zenzai (sweet red bean soup).
The combination of the sweet kintoki beans and the creaminess of the custard cream is indescribably delicious!
The runners-up are “black cocoa & peanut cream,” “Camembert cheese & custard cream,” “apple & custard cream,” and “banana & custard cream.
The taste is so good that after eating one, you will want to try the other varieties one after another.
Since they are priced at 500 yen each, many people actually buy more than one of each type, and since the daily production is limited, you can be sure that you will never run out.
The tart dough alone is also available. You can bake it with your favorite ingredients, and you will be happy to have a crispy and moist tart at home.
Point 3: How to eat a tart from “Tart Shop”?
When you buy a tart at a “tart shop,” they give you a frozen, stiff one.
Therefore, you cannot eat it right away.
It is recommended to thaw it naturally for about 30 minutes and eat it as it is in summer, or warm it up further with a toaster oven in winter.
It is 18 cm in diameter, so it is a good size for one person to eat if they want to.
About 4 equal portions would be just right for an after-dinner dessert.
The pie portion is crispy and the inside is moist, making it addictive. Please give it a try.
