About 15 minutes by car from Naha Airport. This is the second branch of the very popular Japanese restaurant “Hakosaku” located on a back street in Matsuo, also in Naha City! This Japanese restaurant is a hidden gem on a back street where the hustle and bustle of Kokusai-dori seems to be a lie. It is a restaurant that offers reasonably priced food that is perfect for drinking.
Point 1: What is the location of Hakojiro, a Japanese-style restaurant that is a hideaway for adults?
Hakojiro” is located in Matsuo, Naha City. It is only a 15-minute drive from Naha Airport.
The hotel is located right in the middle of Kokusai Dori, between the Taiwanese hotel “Collective” and Hotel Lantana, and faces a narrow alley, which may be a little confusing at first.
It is really strange to find yourself in a place that is only 50 meters away from the tourist-filled Kokusai Dori, yet it seems as if you have wandered into a space that has nothing to do with the hustle and bustle of the city.
It is a place where you can simply enjoy delicious Japanese food without getting caught up in the crowds.
Point 2: What is the menu of “Hakojiro” like?
Hakojiro” just opened on December 19, 2023!
The exterior is also marked by a stylish white wood entrance and a unique noren (curtain) with katakana handwriting!
It is a cozy Japanese restaurant with mainly letter counter seats and one table.
Therefore, the atmosphere is one of simply enjoying food in a quiet manner, rather than a lively one with friends as is the case at Hakosaku.
The cuisine is mainly Japanese food using fresh Okinawan ingredients, rather than standard Okinawan food as at Hakosaku.
The portions of each dish are small, making it a perfect snack for the sake drinker!
There are izakaya dishes like sesame sea bream (605 yen) and seared cod roe cheese (626 yen), side dishes that can be eaten with gusto like Agu pork mince cutlet (495 yen), Agu pork sausage (550 yen), and Yanbaru chicken sloppy joe (385 yen), and even though it is Naha, they are great during the cold season! There are also dishes with unique names, such as Tai Ichiro-kun Ohead Earthen Pot Rice (1,760 yen), which is great for the cold season even in Naha.
The portions are small, but each dish is extremely tasty and reasonably priced, so even if you come with a small group, you can enjoy a wide variety of dishes!
Point 3: There is also a wide variety of drinks at Hakojiro!
Hakojiro” also has an extensive drink menu, which adds color to the delicious Japanese cuisine.
The menu includes juices such as mango, pineapple, and guava (330~550 yen), cocktails such as charcoal coffee awamori (605 yen), white wine by the glass such as Trebbiano d’Abruzzo (660 yen), and about 12 kinds of awamori including Miyanotsuru, Shimauta, and more. Beer and highballs are also available.
