It is now a representative “must-visit” place in Ishigaki Island. The tofu dishes are outstandingly delicious! Especially, Yushi Tofu Set Meal is popular!
Point 1: Is it hard to walk? What is the location of Tofu no Higa?
Tofu no Higa” is located in the southwestern part of Ishigaki Island, about 5 minutes by car from the city center. It is about 22 minutes by car from Shin-Ishigakijima Airport.
If you take a cab and say “Tofu no Higa”, the driver will take you there, and it costs less than 1,000 yen from the city center. Incidentally, it costs about 1,500 yen from the ANA Intercontinental Hotel at the southernmost tip of the island.
By bus, the nearest bus stop to Tofu-no-Hika is “Nagama-Bashi,” but the number of buses running both ways is quite limited.
There is “Art Hotel Ishigakijima” about 10 10-minute walk from Tofu-no-Hika, and there are about 3 buses (routes 7 and 8) a day that depart from and arrive at the front of the hotel. Please note that there are two buses on the return trip.
Walking on foot will take about 30 minutes. It is not located on a main road, and on the way there, you will pass through a rough road overgrown with palm trees, so people on bicycles or in wheelchairs need to be a little careful.
However, although some reviewers have said, “The walk was hard!” However, it is open in the morning from 6:30 a.m., and it is pleasant to go there when the sun is still low in the sky.
It would be a good idea to walk there instead of walking to start the day.
A rustic wooden storefront with a red roof and semi-open air. It is a good place to feel the morning breeze passing by, but since it is a popular store, there can be several people in line even before it opens!
If you go late, you may end up in tears because they are sold out, so it’s best to get there early if you can.
Point 2: What is the specialty menu of “Tofu no Higa”?
Tofu no Higa” is a restaurant that mainly serves tofu dishes.
Originally a tofu store, the restaurant decided to build an eat-in space next to the tofu store to accommodate the many customers who wanted to eat in!
The best-selling menu item is the “Yushi Tofu Set” (450-900 yen), which is available in a variety of sizes from small to extra-large.
The set includes a simple bowl of fresh, hot, and flavorful Yushi-Dofu, rice, fried egg, and Oshinko (pickles).
The “Older Person’s Yushi Tofu Set,” which can be eaten by young people as well as the elderly, includes Yushi tofu, okara (bean curd), Oshinko (Japanese pickles), fried egg, and soy milk for the extremely reasonable price of 450 yen! Plus, there is a wide variety of combinations, so it is highly recommended!
The combination of tofu, okara, egg omelet, and Oshinko (pickled vegetables) is a must-have!
A hearty breakfast is fine, but on the middle day of your trip, we recommend Yushi-Dofu to give your stomach a rest.

The Tofu Chanpuru set meal (650 yen), a staple in Okinawa, is also available. It is a good idea to try the tofu Chanpuru at a popular restaurant!
Fans seem to have an unspoken understanding that the first time you visit, you should first try the Yushi Tofu or the elderly Yushi Tofu set, and after the second time, you should try the “Yushi Tofu Soba” or “Bukkake Yushi Tofu” to experience a change of pace, but of course, you can also just go for the change.
Of course, you are welcome to try the change of pace. Okinawa has always been known for its delicious tofu, and we encourage you to try the delicious Yushi-Dofu, which is made using the age-old method of a long-established tofu store!
