About 32 minutes by car from Naha Airport. Located on a hill in Kishaba, Kitanakagusuku Village in the central part of Okinawa’s main island, this renovated motel from the era of American colonial rule is a place to stay. As the concept of the motel is “to the world of a road movie you saw someday,” the atmosphere of the good old days remains intact.
Point 1: What is the location of “SPICE MOTEL OKINAWA” (Spice Motel Okinawa)?
SPICE MOTEL OKINAWA” is located on a hill in Kitanakagusuku Village in the central Okinawa main island.
It seems that the same design firm that renovated the Mid-Century House YOGI, which we introduced previously, has also renovated the motel, leaving its original atmosphere intact. The location is also about 6 minutes by car from the hotel.
In the 1950s and 1960s, these American-style “flats” were built not only on military land in Okinawa but also on private land. Some of them are being renovated and used as stores and hotels.
SPICE MOTEL OKINAWA” is one such renovated house that retains the atmosphere of the 1950s and 1960s.
The map shows that it is close to the main road, Route 330, but it may be inconvenient if you do not have a car because it is located on a hill.
Point 2: What are the rooms like at “SPICE MOTEL OKINAWA” (Spice Motel Okinawa)?
SPICE MOTEL OKINAWA” has double and twin bedrooms without bathtubs, as well as a Black Room and a Red Room, which retain their original interiors.
The twin and double rooms are nice with a modern interior that does not destroy the atmosphere of those days, but if possible, I am interested in the Red Room and the Black Room, which are decorated in the same way as they were in those days.
I am particularly interested in the “Red Room” and “Black Room,” which have mid-century design lighting fixtures that can no longer be made today!
Some rooms can accommodate dogs.
The price is 9,500 yen per night for all 19 square meters, with a 30% discount on the second night for a 2-night plan, and a system that offers discounts for stays of 3 nights or more, 7 nights or more, and so on, so staying for consecutive nights is also a good idea!
Point 3: “SPICE MOTEL OKINAWA” (Spice Motel Okinawa)’s sophisticated service
SPICE MOTEL OKINAWA provides basic amenities such as slippers, toothbrushes, combs, and razors in the rooms.
There is a kitchen in the common area, a shared lounge where Sata Andagi and coffee are served in the mornings, and a microwave, kettle, and dishes are provided.
There is also a cat’s paw bathtub on the rooftop, where you can experience the “rooftop bath” if you make a reservation. Of course, you can also use the bathtub while wearing a bathing suit.
Although irregular, professional and amateur DJs are sometimes invited, and the rooftop sometimes becomes a dance floor, so you may encounter unexpected fun!
There is no TV, but there is a radio, with AFN broadcasts in English, and you will find that time passes more slowly than if you turn on the TV.
