Tomari Iyumachi” was newly established in 2005 on the premises of Tomari Fishing Port in Minato-cho, Naha City, to promote Okinawa’s marine products. It is called “Tomari Iyumachi,” although it is sometimes mistaken for “Tomari Yui Machi” because of the word “Yui” (yui), which is commonly used in Okinawa. Iyu” means “fish” in the Okinawan language. It is a fish market where wholesalers sell fresh seafood landed locally, and where you can find Okinawa’s marine products at reasonable prices. It is especially lively in the morning.
It is about a 5-minute walk from Tomari Takahashi’s bus stop, Tomarin.
Note the “Nahaha Tuna.”

Did you know that Naha City is a “tuna” city?
Okinawa Prefecture is one of the largest producers of fresh tuna in the country due to its fishing grounds in the surrounding waters. In particular, Naha City accounts for about half of the prefecture’s tuna landings. In 2010, tuna was also established as a city fish, and in July 2018, Naha City was recognized as a hub for tuna production.
You can also get fresh and delicious tuna at Tomari Iyumachi! If you eat at the market, we recommend Maguroya Honpo! You can enjoy fresh Okinawa fresh tuna and seafood rice bowls at reasonable prices.
Reasonably priced sushi and tempura are also noted!
Tomari Iyumachi also offers delicious seafood other than tuna! Especially noteworthy is the sushi platter. Sushi made with fresh fish is available at a reasonable price.
The Okinawan tempura of fish and squid is also intriguing. Since there is limited space to eat inside the market, many locals buy their food here and take it home to eat slowly.
There are time sales depending on the time of day, so you may be lucky if you find a discount! If you can find a discount, it’s a good bet!
Early morning is recommended!

Tomari Iyumachi opens at 6:00 a.m. and is very busy in the morning hours. In the late afternoon, the products may already be in short supply. A recommended route is to go for a morning walk, buy sashimi from your favorite sushi shop in Tomari Iyumachi, and eat it at the nearby Tomari Port (Tomarin) park!
The fresh fish you get while smelling the ocean and feeling the breeze is the best! If your hotel does not include breakfast, be sure to visit the fish market in the morning.
