Itoman City is located in the southern part of Okinawa Prefecture. Itoman Roadside Station, located about 20 minutes by car from Naha Airport, is a large facility with a souvenir shop, a shop selling island vegetables, and a restaurant. Because of its easy access from the airport, it is said to be the kitchen of Okinawa, used not only by tourists but also by locals.

The “Fish Center” is a highly recommended spot where you can fully enjoy Okinawan seafood! The variety of fresh fish stores lined up along the street is enough to make your eyes water.

Anyway, they are inexpensive! Big and plump fish!

The best part is the price. Eight pieces of sushi for 500 yen and oysters with sea urchin sauce for 250 yen. You won’t find prices like this even if you go to the local supermarket. The price is so reasonable because there is a local fishing port and the fishermen purchase freshly caught fish from the sea.

It is fun to choose which one to have for lunch today, and it is also a good idea to buy the featured item of the day. You may want to buy vegetables at the “Umanchu Market” on the same premises and cook an Itoman-style dinner.

Let’s have an original Kaisendon for lunch!

Some of the many stores in line sell small quantities of fillets, making it look like a seafood buffet. You can also buy rice only, so you can make your original kaizen-don (seafood bowl) by choosing only the ingredients you like. And it’s inexpensive.

If you don’t want to fill up on sushi or Kaisendon because of the rice, you can buy just a lot of seafood. You can enjoy a little bit at a time but with a lot of variety.

There are covered tables and benches outside, so you can enjoy fresh seafood on the spot.

A place where you can encounter the unique scenery of Okinawa

The fish of Okinawa are colorful. The freshly caught fish lined up in rows are a sight to behold. Some of them are local favorites such as gurukun and mibai, while others may make outsiders wonder, “What the heck is this? And some people outside the prefecture might think, “What’s this? This is a place where you can experience Okinawa through the food of the sea.

In addition to the standard seafood such as tuna, sea urchins, and scallops, there is also a traditional Okinawan fish cake shop. Unlike most fish cakes, Okinawan fish cakes are deep-fried rather than steamed. It is very satisfying and popular among people of all ages. Please give it a try!
