This agoo pork shabu shabu shabu restaurant is located on the first floor of a building in Higashimachi, Naha City, about a minute’s drive from Naha Airport. There is no signboard, so the entrance is really hard to find, and it is truly a “hideout”. But don’t worry, the interior is bright and the staff is friendly!
Point 1: A true hideout! What is the location of Agu Grandpa’s Restaurant?
Grandpa, the man behind the name of the restaurant, is a gourmand who eats all over the country.
Grandpa” encountered Agu pork in Okinawa and was so impressed by its taste that he decided to open his restaurant to let people know how delicious it is.
It is a great passion to open a restaurant not only to keep the delicious Agu pork within yourself but also to let people know about it!
That is why this restaurant is so particular about deliciousness and how to eat it.
On the first floor of a concrete building, with no signage or anything, you might think, “Is this a restaurant? But you can see the inside through the window, so please check it out.
It takes about 10 minutes from Naha Airport by car.
If you are not driving, it is a 5-minute walk from Asahibashi Station on the Yui Rail. Or take Ryukyu Bus No. 120 or 117, and get off at “Asahibashi/Naha Bus Terminal Nori-ba 11”, then walk for 6 minutes.
Point 2: “Agu Grandpa’s Restaurant” Agu pork shabu shabu shabu introduction!
According to the owner of Agu Grandpa’s Restaurant, there is a difference between Agu and Agu.
Agu”: A purebred breed with a small body, so the portion of meat that can be harvested is small and rare.
Agu”: A mixed breed with a larger body, so it produces more meat, but the taste is inferior to that of the pure breed.
This restaurant is named “Agu” but uses purebred Agu pork.
There are three types of seasonings: “leek vinegar soy sauce,” “grated tempura sauce,” and “green onion ponzu vinegar.
So it is only the Agu pork that is simply shabu-shabu, and the vegetables are not shabu-shabu together.
I was surprised when I tried it! The warm, freshly shabu-shabu Agu pork combined with the crispiness of the vegetables is very tasty! I feel you have a point about only shabu-shabu with pork.
It is expensive at 6,800 yen per person, but looking at the beautiful Agu pork in a paulownia wood box, I feel it is worth it.
There are many Agu pork restaurants, but this is probably one of the three best.
Point 3: What is “Agu fillet tempura” at “Agu Grandpa’s”?
The only menu item other than shabu-shabu at “Agu Grandpa’s” is “Agu fillet tempura” (1,200 yen). It is a deep-fried rare fillet, but it is sweet and indescribably delicious!
Katsu (pork cutlet) is the standard when it comes to pork fillet, but I think the thinly sliced pork fillet made into tempura is even more delicious.
If you can, you should try this fillet tempura in addition to shabu-shabu.
Agu Grandpa’s Restaurant, located in Higashimachi, Naha City, is owned by a man who was so impressed by the taste of Agu pork after visiting Okinawa one day that he even opened his restaurant.
Please come and try the first-class Agu pork that he serves with more passion and service spirit than any other person.
