It is about 43 minutes by car from Naha Airport. The cafe is located in Zuikeran, Kitanakagusuku Village in the central part of Okinawa’s main island. Like the entire area, it is a former foreigner’s residence that has been remodeled to look stylish from the outside! Inside, handmade objets d’art and antique-style furniture line the walls, creating a sophisticated interior. The specialty is “Dutch Baby Pancakes.
Point 1: Surprisingly easy to get to! Where is MOTHER COFFEE located?
MOTHER COFFEE is located in Zukeran, Kitanakagusuku Village in central Okinawa.
The cafe is located in a corner of Kitanakagusuku Village Zukeran, about a meter by cab from AEON Lycoming, where a peaceful landscape spreads out, and English signs for fast food restaurants and cafes stand out in the vicinity.
Yes, there is a U.S. military base “Camp Foster” right there, and most of the customers are foreigners. You can feel an international atmosphere in this area.
It takes about 43 minutes from Naha Airport via Okinawa Expressway.
By bus, you can also take the Ryukyu Bus No. 190, which also passes in front of Hotel Collective on Kokusai-dori, and get off at “Ohira” and then walk 3 minutes to the restaurant.
Even though it is in the central part of the main island of Okinawa, you can get there without changing buses, so it is easy to access.
The one-story storefront, which used to be a foreigner’s residence, has a nice appearance with its ivy-twined exterior.
Inside, the retro interior creates a calm and mature atmosphere. Handmade objets d’art are displayed stylishly, creating a fashionable atmosphere!
The menu includes famous Dutch pancakes, teriyaki chicken, macaroni au gratin, desserts, and drinks with latte artwork.
Point 2: What are MOTHER COFFEE’s Dutch Baby Pancakes?
The Dutch Baby Pancakes at MOTHER COFFEE come in a wide variety.
They are served in a Dutch pan, a frying pan-like container, and although they are called “Dutch,” they originated in the United States.
The toppings are on top of a thin pancake or pizza crust-like dough, and the volume of the toppings is incredible.
There are a wide variety of toppings, including teriyaki chicken, sausage, Oimo, macaroni au gratin, Mentaiko potato rice cake, and other meal items, as well as dessert items such as apple caramel, chocolate banana, and berries.
For example, if you order teriyaki chicken, it comes with soy sauce, and a few drops of soy sauce Makes it taste good! This is a good combination of Japanese taste and American taste.
The sausage and bacon are huge and dynamic!
The price is reasonable at 780 to 880 yen for such a large portion!
Even in Okinawa, where American cuisine is served, there are few, if any, places that serve “Dutch Baby Pancakes”.
It is a menu item unique to this restaurant where the majority of customers are Americans.
Although there are not many staff members and the restaurant is sometimes operated as a one-operator, you will forget the time when you are looking around the restaurant, so you will not mind waiting for a while.
The space is just pleasant and comfortable. That’s how nice the cafe is.
Point 3: “MOTHER COFFEE” and other menu items!
At MOTHER COFFEE, most people order the famous “Dutch Baby Pancakes,” but the other recommended item on the menu is the sandwich shown in the photo.
The open type with bright colors looks so delicious! The varieties are pastrami, cheese, and tuna mayonnaise.
They also do a take-out “sandwich box” (1,200 yen).
You can choose your favorite sandwich, salad (avocado, tomato, bell pepper), eggs (boiled, scrambled, fried), and drink (American coffee, jasmine tea, Darjeeling, Earl Grey, apple juice, orange juice).
You can also buy and eat during the drive!
As for drinks, the standard café latte with cute bear latte art is good, but we also recommend the refreshing “Sparkling Lemon Tea” for hot weather!
Other drinks include smoothies and flavored lattes!
Parking is limited, so we were told that we may be asked to park on the street if it is crowded.
The area of this cafe in Kitanakagusuku Village has many former foreign residential stores and has a nice exotic atmosphere, so it is often visited by girls’ groups and Instagrammers. It is not as far from Naha Airport as you might think, so we hope you will go out of your way to visit.
