The park has a large dense banyan tree that is soothing. Stall: Bannaido

As is typical of Okinawa, there is a large banyan tree in Midorigaoka Park. It is easy to walk around looking at the top of the tree, but be careful not to fall because the ground is bumpy with thick roots!

But how old is this tree? It is a magnificent banyan tree. The cool green breeze seems to be blowing through just under the tree, which is very pleasant and healing.

The park is also home to many tropical trees and plants that have never been seen on the mainland.

The tree in the photo is called “brush tree,” which is native to Australia and New Caledonia and is called “bottlebrush” in English because it looks just like a brush used to wash bottles.

The red flowers are so abundant that they seem to have a tremendous life force!

The park also has a basketball court and children’s playground equipment, so it is a good place for children to play.

It is also a great place to eat food and drinks you bought on Kokusai Dori. Of course, after eating, be sure to put your food in the trash!

Some of the toilets have won “Good Design Awards.” Source: Bannaido

This restroom, which won the “Good Design Award” in 2016, was the brainchild of a female designer and has become a landmark in the park, with many visitors aiming to use the restrooms, which used to have a less-than-ideal image.

Gusuku-designed stages are also available! Source: Bannaido

The park also has a small stage in the motif of an Okinawan castle (gusuku), where events such as yoga and flea markets are sometimes held.

It is a wonderful design, reminiscent of the days of the Ryukyu Dynasty.

There are also many hidden gourmet restaurants around the park, such as Hitsuji (bean flower) and Tokkuri Kiwata Coffee Shop, so be sure to look for them. Please visit Midorigaoka Park.
