About a minute’s drive from Naha Airport. It is a vegan ice cream specialty store from Hawaii, located in Chatan-cho 1-chome, central Okinawa Island. You will first be attracted by the cute blue painted exterior with a straw roof. It is located right by the ocean, so you can enjoy eating ice cream while looking at the ocean!
Point 1: What is the location of COCONUT GLENS Alaha Store?
The COCONUT GLENS Alaha Store just opened in April 2025! It is a vegan ice cream from Hawaii that is free of dairy products, eggs, and white sugar.
Was it opened in Okinawa because of its location near an Okinawan base, where vegan ingredients are more easily accepted?
This is the second vegan ice cream shop to open in Tokyo, following Azabu Juban, Minami Ikebukuro, and Asakusa.
Since it does not contain eggs, milk, or white sugar, it is safe for people with allergies and children to eat.
Above all, it has fewer calories than regular ice cream, so it is recommended for those who are watching their health!
From Naha Airport, it takes about 38 minutes via Route 58.
By bus, take Okinawa Bus No. 143 (Chatan Gateway) or Ryukyu Bus No. 120 and get off at “Chatan”. It is an 8-minute walk.
Perhaps because the area is located south of American Village, there are buses that go directly to the area, so access is easy!
And since it is along Alaha Beach with its sandy beach, the area feels more like a resort.
Point 2: What kind of ice cream do you recommend at “ COCONUT GLENS Alaha Store”?
Coconut Glen Araha offers seven types of ice cream, but if you are in doubt, we recommend this “Original” first.
Ingredients are organic coconut milk (from Vietnam), organic cane sugar, Western liquor, and roasted coconut.
It is 100% both organic and vegan.
Other flavors include chocolate, lemon ginger grass, vanilla, coffee toffee, pistachio, and banana rum raisin, all of which are unique and have their own flavors.
They all have a 100% vegan rate, but the organic rate for all but the original is 94-99%.
It is really hard to decide which one to choose, but try the original first.
The ice cream comes in coconut shells or paper cups, and a scoop costs 440 yen for a shell and 470 yen for a cup. (Or you can purchase a shell for 300 yen.)
You would think that this vegan ice cream from Hawaii would be expensive, but it is surprisingly reasonable, so feel free to try it.
Point 3: What else is on the menu at COCONUT GLENS Alaha Store?
In addition to scoops of ice cream, COCONUT GLENS Alaha Store offers vegan bouche sandwiches and vegan cookie sandwiches.
The boussé sandwich is a vegan boussé made with organic almonds on a rice flour base, with ice cream sandwiched between three types of boussé: plain, chocolate, and chlorella.
The savory bouquet is different from that of a scoop of ice cream.
The vegan cookie sandwich is a soft cookie filled with organic cacao nibs that goes great with the ice cream! It is just as delicious as the bouche.
The Coconut Glen Alaha store, located in Chatan-cho 2-chome, central Okinawa Island, is the fourth store in Japan after Azabu Juban, Minami Ikebukuro, and Asakusa.
One might expect the price to be expensive for organic and vegan ice cream from Hawaii, but it is reasonably priced and healthy, so you don’t have to feel too guilty.
Scoops of ice cream are served in coconut shells, and there are also nutritious options such as biscuits with cacao nibs and cookies in between, so be sure to stop in and try one.
