About 27 minutes by car from Naha Airport. It is a long-established diner located in Shuri, Naha City. From the outside, it looks like an old-fashioned Western-style diner, but the taste and prices have remained almost the same for more than 40 years, and they keep their cheap, tasty, and fast service. The owner’s personality is also very friendly, making you feel at home.
Point 1: Is it hard to get to? What is the location of Garo?
Restaurant Garo” is a 40-year-old Western-style restaurant located in Shuri Daimyo-cho, Naha City.
It has been in business for 22 years in Tomari, Naha City, and then moved to Shuri.
It is run by a husband and wife team, and although they are always busy, they are very friendly and make me feel at ease every time I visit.
The exterior of the shop looks “out of the ordinary. The font of “Garo” tells the story of the Showa period.
It takes about 27 minutes by car from Naha Airport via Route 331, Route 58, and Shisa-dori.
By car: 11-minute walk from Yui Rail Kyotsuka Station. Or take Tokyo Bus (TK02) to Kokusai-dori Entrance, then take bus #56 from Naha Bus Stop “Okigin Honten-mae” (in front of Okigin Head Office), which is located 1 minute walk away, and get off at “Heian Byoin-mae”. It is a one-minute walk to the restaurant!
The parking lot has space for two cars, but it is too small, and large vehicles cannot be parked there, so it is recommended to park at a convenience store or coin-operated parking lot!
Point 2: What is the specialty menu of “Garo Restaurant”?
Garo has so many dishes on the menu that it is always difficult to decide which one to try. Lunch is good and inexpensive, but my favorite is the “Roasted Chicken Cream Pilaf”.
The pilaf has a nostalgic taste and sound and is topped with juicy roasted chicken. It is a menu item that seems a little unlikely! The pilaf by itself and the roasted chicken by itself are both delicious, but the two have been combined, so it’s hard to resist.
The price for this dish is 750 yen!
Another pilaf-type dish is the “Yakiniku Pilaf. This is also juicy, rich, and highly recommended!
The seasoning is not as strong as it appears, but just right! Even children can eat this without worry!
Point 3: What else is on the menu at Garo?
At Garo, there are seemingly ordinary menu items such as hamburgers, stir-fried vegetables, curry, Neapolitan, meat sauce, and omelet rice, but there are also some menu items that make you wonder, “What kind of menu is this? On the other hand, some dishes make you wonder, “What kind of menu would this be?
On the other hand, there are Okinawan dishes such as “Champion,” so it takes time to make a choice. The reason for this is that beginners imagine the flavors in their brains, while repeaters remember the tastiest dishes they have ever eaten and compare them with each other.
The price is only 780 yen for the most expensive one, so you will be happy! When ordering a meal, a drink can be included for an additional 150 yen.
Lunch is 660 yen and changes daily. Even though it is inexpensive for a single dish, it is even more reasonable for lunch!
In addition to the food, the salads are delicious! The dressing may be original, but it is very refreshing with a light citrus flavor.
Located in Shuri, Naha City, Garo Restaurant is a long-established Western-style restaurant run by a couple that has been in business for 40 years. In addition to standard Western-style dishes, the restaurant offers “unlikely” Western-style dishes such as roasted chicken cream pilaf.
The menu is so large that it is truly a challenge, but it is such a charming place that while you are there you will find yourself thinking, “I’ll have this next time,” and fantasizing about the next time you will visit the restaurant. Please come and visit us.
