Located in Onna Village on the main island of Okinawa, the “Earth and Sound Journey: House of Zion” is an accommodation facility with unique architecture and harmony with nature as its theme. In addition to the special atmosphere of being a one-room-only facility, it offers an “extraordinary” time surrounded by the fantastic beauty of Gaudí’s architecture and the sounds, scents, and lights of nature. In this issue, we would like to introduce its charm from three points of view: location, rooms, and facilities.

Point 1: What is the location of “Chion’s House” on a hill in Onna Village?

The “Earth and Sound Journey: House of Chion” is also called “Japan’s Gaudí” because of its unique shape. The villa was built using the “earthbag construction method,” in which earthbags are piled up in the shape of a house.

This method is rare in Japan, but it is popular in Africa and other countries, and you may have seen houses with unusual shapes.

This hotel is located in Tomijima, Onna Village, Okinawa Prefecture. Onna Village is known as an area lined with resort hotels, but Cheon’s House is located in a quieter part of the village on higher ground, away from the hustle and bustle of the city, where you can enjoy the natural surroundings.

It is easily accessible to the nearest beaches and tourist spots, and is about an hour’s drive from Naha Airport. Free private parking is available on the premises, making it safe to use a rental car. The location is ideal for enjoying a star-filled night sky and relaxing in the garden surrounded by plants and flowers during the day.

By bus, take Ryukyu Bus No. 120, get off at “Tiger Beach Mae” and walk for 5 minutes. You can also take a local bus without transferring, so access to the site is an easy part of the trip.

Point 2: A unique fairy-tale world view! Introduction to the rooms of “Thion’s House

The main attraction of this inn is the architecture itself. The walls and ceilings are all curved, and the doors and bathtubs are rounded, as if they were made of gourds. The doors and bathtubs are rounded, like “gourd-shaped,” making you feel as if you have wandered into a storybook world.

The room consists of a living room, three bedrooms, a bathroom, a toilet, and a kitchen, and is a spacious space of about 92 square meters. It can accommodate up to about six people, mainly on two double beds. With high ceilings and softly lit rooms, the interior is like a work of art. The natural color-based interior design makes the space visually pleasing as well.

Point 3: Facilities and services are also unique! Facilities and services of “Thiong’s House

What enriches the lodging experience is the extensive facilities in the hotel. The first thing to note is that the hotel is equipped with a home theater and audio equipment. Using the projector, you can project DVD, Blu-ray, or smartphone images and enjoy movies or live music on the big screen.

The kitchen is equipped with a refrigerator, microwave, toaster, stove, and kitchen utensils for simple cooking. Furthermore, in the courtyard, you can freely pick and decorate the herbs and seasonal flowers being grown and use them for cooking. Scissors and baskets for harvesting are also provided.

Visitors can also borrow musical instruments and try their hand at playing the Okinawan sanshin, a traditional Okinawan instrument. In the fantastic gourd-shaped bathtub, you can enjoy an extraordinary experience while soaking in the hot water.

As you can see, “Cheon no Ie” is unique not only in its exterior and interior, but also in its services and facilities. Although located in Onna Village, one of Okinawa’s major tourist areas, it is built on a hillside away from the hustle and bustle of the city, giving it a relaxed atmosphere that you would not get at a large resort hotel.
