The Plaza House Shopping Center was created during the period of U.S. occupation.
It was created in 1945 adjacent to the U.S. Army Ryukyu Headquarters, which was established after the end of the war, to meet the needs of officers, commanders, and their families stationed in the Ryukyu Islands.
The first shopping center in Japan reflected the shopping culture prevailing in the U.S. at the time, and the facade remains much the same to this day.
