It is a long-established Okinawan restaurant located a 4-minute walk from Shuri Station on the Yui Rail. The menu promises a large portion of food, but the prices are very reasonable! And yet the prices are very reasonable, and the restaurant has many longtime fans. Even single items are characterized by their large portions! The set menus are especially recommended!
Point 1: “Ayagu Shokudo” mainly offers a 600-800 yen menu!
Ayagu” of Ayagu Shokudo means “ayagu” in the Miyako language, meaning “ayagu thing,” “beautiful words,” or “song,” and the restaurant was named with the meaning of “striving to create a restaurant that touches the heart as if it were a beautiful word or song.
The restaurant is very popular among locals rather than tourists, and long lines of customers form during lunch and dinner hours.
The menu is mainly 600-800 yen, and includes dishes such as the A lunch with pork and egg and Okinawa soba soup (shown in the photo), the Yushi Tofu set meal, the Tebichi set meal, and the Okinawa soba set meal, as well as regular dishes such as the mixed fry set meal and the somen set meal.
Another secret of the restaurant’s popularity is the price, which is less than 700 yen for a set meal!
That is why there are many local customers!
Point 2: The quantity of set meals at Ayagu Shokudo is not half as large as it should be!
The menu items at Ayagu Shokudo are all very generous in quantity.
Even if you order the smallest portion of “Okinawa soba,” it is the same volume as a regular restaurant!
When it comes to set meals, the portions are too much for a woman to eat.
For example, the “Yushi Tofu Set Meal” comes with a bowl of hot tofu, sashimi, chicken cutlet, a small bowl of rice, and pickles. For 690 yen, this is a steal!
For those who want more, we recommend the “A Lunch” shown in the photo.
This includes pork with ham and cheese omelet, two sausages, hamburger steak, five pieces of tempura, large pork cutlet, macaroni salad, soba no gosh (buckwheat noodle soup), and heaping bowls of rice.
For 900 yen, I felt a little sorry for myself.
This amount of food looks like something a food fighter or a junior high school student on his way home from club activities would eat.
Incidentally, this is the most expensive menu item at Ayagu Shokudo!
Point 3: “Ayagu Shokudo” also has to-go lunch boxes!

The entire menu at Ayagu Shokudo is available for take-out. If you put it in a regular plastic container, the volume is so large that the lid won’t close (laugh).
It is very awkward to fasten it with a single rubber band.
As is the fate of popular restaurants, it is always busy, so you may have to wait a bit for take-out! But it is nice to be able to avoid the crowds and enjoy “that taste” at home or in a hotel in a relaxed atmosphere!
