This is a wallet-friendly Okinawan restaurant located in Matsuyama, Naha City, about 10 minutes by car from Naha Airport. Established over 50 years ago, this Okinawan diner is loved not only by tourists but also by locals because of its regular menu. Since it is close to the airport, it is also suitable for returning to Naha on the last day of sightseeing in Okinawa and relaxing here!

Point 1: The specialty of Mikado Restaurant is “Okinawan-style Champon”.

Many Okinawan restaurants in Okinawa serve inexpensive and heaping portions of Okinawan cuisine. Mikado is no exception.

Every Okinawan diner has its specialty, and here at Mikado, it is Okinawan-style Chanpon.

Chanpon” is famous in Nagasaki, but Okinawan Chanpon is made of rice instead of noodles, and the Chanpon here is quite a subgenre of Okinawan Chanpon!

The filling of Chanpon is stir-fried cabbage, corned beef, chives, and other vegetables, which are then covered with a generous amount of eggs.

In fact, inside the Chanpon is “corned beef hash,” which is corned beef stir-fried with small slices of potato, giving it a moderate saltiness and the richness of the corned beef accents the gentle seasoning.

It is sweetly seasoned with more onions. Moreover, this quantity is extremely inexpensive at 750 yen!

Even a man would be full halfway through eating it with beer, so the amount is barely enough to wash it down with the miso soup that comes as a side dish.

Although the portion is not large, the taste is gentle, like the love of the mother who makes it, and the saltiness of the corned beef combines to make it a dish that you will want to eat again.

Point 2: Is it crowded during “Dining Mikado” dinner time?

Mikado Restaurant is open from 10:00 to 21:00, a long time. It is a popular restaurant that is crowded during the daytime, but even more crowded are the evening hours.

There are many Okinawan dishes on the menu, such as Chanpuru and tofu dishes, plus curry with pork cutlet and cheeseburgers! The restaurant also offers regular menu items such as hamburger sets, so it is crowded with local businessmen.

Reservations can be made, but it seems that many people stand in line without reservations.

However, the male staff is very efficient, so you don’t have to wait in line for more than a few minutes.

The TV is on in the restaurant, and the local businessmen chatting and watching TV while eating are somewhat generous.

Point 3: “Shokudo Mikado” is the originator of “Pork Tamago”!

What is hidden here is that this “Oshokujiro Mikado” is the birthplace of the “Pork Tamago,” a dish that is very popular today!

Pork Tamago Onigiri” has become so popular that specialty stores have sprung up outside of Okinawa, and even convenience stores are selling them, but the “Pork Tamago” at Mikado is a “set meal” style.

It consists of a few slices of grilled pork and egg, as typified by SPAM, with macaroni salad and slices of shredded egg on the side.

Rice is served separately and is accompanied by oil miso and pickled plums.

If you are taking it out, they will put it in a pack, but due to the rice being packed tightly, it is more voluminous than it looks, making you feel quite full!

The volume of this dish is just as large as the “Chanpon,” and I could see why it is a popular menu item!
