About 90 minutes by car from Naha Airport. Just 3 minutes from Kouri Beach is the recycled plastic factory “True Blue”. In addition to a select store, there is also a workshop and a café, where you can contribute to environmental protection while looking for cute accessories.
Point 1: An accessory that contributes to the environment? What is “TRUE BLUE”?
The “TRUE BLUE” workshop is located on Kouri Island in Yanbaru, Okinawa, and is a newly built complex consisting of a select store, a hands-on workshop, a plastic recycling factory, and a café.
It is run by a non-profit organization called “On the Road,” whose representative director is Ayumi Takahashi, an artist who runs a restaurant, guesthouse, self-sufficient school, and various other activities.
Nowadays, businesses are being created from items recycled from the trash that has fallen into the sea rather than expensive accessories.
At the workshop, located in the perfect environment of Kouri Island overlooking the emerald green sea, marine plastics are brought in daily by staff and guests and turned into wonderful “treasures.
If guests bring in plastic trash that has fallen into the ocean, they can exchange it for items such as drinks and snacks in proportion to the amount of plastic trash they bring in.
Isn’t it wonderful to be able to contribute to environmental protection and receive a little gift?
Point 2: What does the “TRUE BLUE” select store have to offer?
So what does the “TRUE BLUE” select store have to offer?
Earrings, earrings, and rings are all one-of-a-kind accessories, and the parts that touch the skin are made of surgical stainless steel, which does not easily cause metal allergies!
The gentle colors and textures look as if they were made from old-fashioned celluloid, making it hard to believe that they were made from plastic that had fallen into the sea.
Luxurious accessories are great, but nowadays, many people think that accessories made with cutting-edge SDGs-conscious thinking like this are the coolest.
Point 3: “TRUE BLUE” also has workshops!
TRUE BLUE” also has a workshop, where you can participate in making your accessories.
Isn’t it a little unusual to be able to experience making upcycled accessories in a natural and beautiful workshop with a view of the ocean?
The workshop menu includes accessories such as earrings, pins, lampshades, key chains, plastic bottle flowers, and honey wax wraps.
All of them are so attractive that it is hard to decide which experience to choose.
This is especially recommended for those who want to make their trip more memorable than just a simple sightseeing tour.
The time required is 90~150 minutes, and the cost is 2,000~6,500 yen.
