About 35 minutes by car from Naha Airport. It is a stateless restaurant located in a U.S. military base called Camp Foster. It is very rare to find a restaurant serving international cuisine in Okinawa, isn’t it? It is a hurdle to enter the base, but why don’t you go there with a friend or when the base is open to the public?
Point 1: How do I get into “Camp Foster” where “Terra International Fusion” is located?
Terra International Fusion is located on Camp Foster, an incredibly large U.S. military base that spans four areas on the main island of Okinawa: Okinawa City, Ginowan City, Kitanakagusuku Village, and Chatan Town.
To enter the restaurant, one must first enter the base.
Some restaurants on the base, such as Seaside, are open to Japanese people without a passport or ID, but this restaurant does not seem to be one of them.
The first way to enter a U.S. military base is to be brought by a U.S. military person. Some Okinawans are drinking or sports friends with US military personnel, so the hurdle is not so high.
However, if you are just a tourist with no friends in Okinawa, the hurdle is still a bit high.
Also, Camp Foster has a festival around July, which unfortunately was canceled in 2022, but it looks like it could resume in 2023.
They have international singers coming to the festival and you can see their concerts for free.
You could also go inside for that.
Point 2: What kind of food does “Terra International Fusion” serve?
Terra International Fusion” has an international name, so one would expect to be able to enjoy cuisine from all over the world. I was expecting that.
The restaurant is located in “Building 9,” so I headed that way.
It looks like the home of a rich foreigner!
I was very excited to see what kind of menu this foreign mansion-like restaurant has to offer!
There are three main menus: Breakfast, Brunch, Lunch & Dinner, and Kids Menu.
Breakfast choices range from the standard “American Traditional” ($9) with two eggs, bacon, and toast to the “American Classic” ($9-12 with fries, white rice, and fruit) with a choice of cookies, sandwiches, burritos, tacos, and more.
Then there are the less familiar tacos with scrambled eggs and chorizo ($10), and the “Benny” with bacon, poached eggs, and a muffin ($10-12).
The most luxurious breakfast is the “Steak and Eggs” ($16), which includes an 8-ounce steak, two eggs, French fries, and toast. It is America when there is steak in the morning!
Brunch also features pizza, tortillas, calamari (fried squid), and chicken wings on a menu similar to breakfast.
The chicken wings are available in a variety of sauces such as mango habanero, Hawaiian teriyaki, and sweet chili, which is probably where the “international” in the restaurant’s name comes from.
Point 3: What is the “Terra International Fusion” lunch and dinner menu like?
Photo: Mexican fast food, quesadilla
Some of you may be thinking, “This is not international food at all, despite the name ‘Terra International Fusion! You may be thinking, “This is not international food at all!
The restaurant comes into its own at dinner, which starts at 5:00 p.m.
The lunch and dinner menus, although some of them are covered by the brunch menu, include lumpia (Indonesian spring rolls, $7), quesadilla (Mexican fast food, $12), Southwest Fajita Salad (salad with beans, corn, chicken, etc., with Ayoride dressing, $12), and a variety of other dishes. Aioli dressing salad with beans, corn, chicken, etc. ($12)! Many of these items are hard to find in Japan, which is why you want to experience them!
There is a wide variety of alcoholic beverages, including cocktails, craft beer, beer, Coca-Cola, and ginger ale ($2), which are well-known in Japan, and soft drinks that are unfamiliar in Japan.
There are also a variety of strange drinks such as “Terra Tea,” a mixture of raspberry, peach, and mango with iced tea, “Cucumber Lemonade,” a mixture of lemon and cucumber, and “Arnold Palmer,” a mixture of iced tea and lemonade (all for $3)!
Different countries have different food cultures, and it is very moving to be able to experience this in Okinawa!
