A place where an exhibition and a diner are fused into one! Stylish and sophisticated cafeteria
Tamagusuku Shokudo is a popular and stylish diner located in Nanjo City, Okinawa Prefecture.
The restaurant features a stylish cafe-like exterior and interior that makes it hard to believe that it was built by renovating a former community center, and it also has terrace seating with cool bamboo screens.
Although the diner just opened in April 2021, it has become a popular gourmet spot in Nanjo City due to its stylish exterior and interior, as well as the delicious food it serves.
Point 1: Stylish exterior and interior that you would not expect from a former community center
Tamaki Shokudo was created by fully renovating a building that used to be an old community center. The stylish, modern Japanese-style exterior with concrete walls covered with wood and the somewhat retro and relaxed interior, while still retaining some of the atmosphere of the old community center, became the talk of the town, and the restaurant became so popular that long lines formed immediately after it opened.
It is no wonder that Tamaki Shokudo was created and is operated by a total of nine specialists, including a painter, a potter, a woodworker, a chef, a Buddhist priest, an architect, and an innkeeper.
The restaurant is decorated with paintings by painters and tableware created by potters and woodworkers, so many people come to enjoy the professionalism and attention to detail that shines through here and there, almost as if they were at a private exhibition.
Point 2: The Western and Taiwanese food offered is very good!
At Tamaki Restaurant, you can enjoy two types of cuisine: Western and Taiwanese. One of the attractions of this restaurant is that you can enjoy two types of cuisine in one place: Western cuisine prepared mainly by Chef Umehara, a painter, and Taiwanese and other ethnic cuisines prepared mainly by the innkeeper, Mr. Kamegai.
The most recommended menu items at Tamaki Shokudo are the “tanzaimen” and the most popular “rou rohan” (roasted rice). Although it is Taiwanese-style, it is seasoned to suit the Japanese palate, making it an exquisite dish. Also, the Spiced Cacao Curry, which uses a lot of cacao, and the Desire and Passion Parfait for dessert are also the most delicious, so if you are not sure about the menu, please try them anyway.
Point 3: The back of the store is a gallery! Vessels and other items can be purchased.
In the back of Tamaki Shokudo, there is a gallery where works of art by the co-operators are exhibited, and the plates and cups on display can actually be purchased.
It is a space that is so stylish that it is almost as if art and art and food coexist in the same space. Tamaki Shokudo also seems to have the desire to make the restaurant a place where various encounters can be had through a facility that combines an exhibition and a restaurant.
After tucking into a delicious meal, why not take a look at the works of the people who run the gallery?
