Sea, sky, clouds, sunset, everything is beautiful at Nishi Beach.

Hateruma Island, known as the southernmost inhabited island in Japan, is located south of Ishigaki Island. It takes about one hour by high-speed boat from Ishigaki Port. The tranquil nature and beautiful scenery welcome visitors. As the name suggests, Hateruma Island is located at the edge of the Yaeyama Islands. One of the most popular spots is Nishihama Beach, where you can stay for hours. You can see the deep and bright blue sea called “Hateruma Blue” at this beautiful beach, which was once awarded first place in the “Best Beach in Japan” ranking.
Point 1: Once you see Hateruma blue, you will never forget it.

We recommend renting a bicycle to get to Nishihama Beach, located about 1 km from the harbor. There is a downhill on the way to the beach, and the view of the ocean from there is just beautiful! I remember being very impressed the first time I visited.” I had heard rumors about the beauty of the “Hateruma blue,” but it was a sight far beyond my imagination. The sea is different from other seas in Okinawa, with layers and layers of blue mixed. Once you see it, you will never forget it. There are benches on the beach, so it is a luxurious way to spend a leisurely day gazing at the sea.
Point 2: Strongest collaboration of ocean and sunset

Nishihama Beach is also known for its beautiful sunsets. Since there are no buildings or other obstructions around the beach, you can watch the sunset over the coastline. One of the highlights of the beach is that the “Hateruma blue” changes its color in various ways as it is illuminated by the setting sun. You can also use the sunset shadows to take fashionable photos. The scenery of Nishihama Beach changes rapidly depending on the time of day, so it is recommended that you visit several times during your stay on Hateruma Island.
Point 3: It’s worth it because it’s hard to get to.

High-speed boats from Ishigaki Port to Hateruma Island are out of service if the waves are even slightly high. Compared to the high-speed boats, passenger ferries are not in service every day, so timing is important for a trip to Hateruma Island. The author was also unable to visit the island on his first attempt, and was finally able to visit on his second. Even though I was able to visit the island, it is not uncommon for the boat to be cancelled on the return trip, so it is recommended to have enough time in your schedule. Surrounded by stars at night, the island is a wonderful place to heal both body and soul. Please visit the island.
