It takes about one and a half hours by car from Naha Airport. This beach is located in Ogimi Village in the northern part of Okinawa’s main island. Many ordinary people may have never heard of it before, but it is a very famous spot among divers. It is not a hole-in-the-wall anymore. The transparency, corals, and tropical fishes are all excellent!
Point 1: What is the location of “Nejime Beach”?
Nejime Beach” is located in Ogimi Village in the northern part of Okinawa’s main island, known as Yanbaru.
From Naha Airport, it takes about one and a half hours to reach the beach via Okinawa Expressway and Route 58, which is surprisingly close despite its location in the northern part of the island.
The beach can be seen from National Route 58, so it is very easy to find.
There is no parking lot, but you can park for free in the nearby parking lot of the old roadside station Ogimi. Or you can park on the wide shoulder of the road.
Point 2: What kind of beach is “Nejime Beach”? What are its features?
When you hear the name “Nejime Beach,” even the most dedicated Okinawan may not have a clear idea of where it is, but in fact, it is a very popular spot among divers, who are all heading north in unison.
The reason for this is the clarity of the ocean, the abundance of coral, and the number of tropical fish, which are clearly different from those in the central and southern parts of the main island.
Once you dive in the northern sea, you will be addicted to it, and there are many repeat visitors.
The moderately curved sandy beach is wide and deep, giving a sense of openness.
I think that there is no need to worry about snorkeling because the waves are relatively calm because of the shallow water and the wave blocking.
Swimming is also possible, but please be careful of the currents and dangerous creatures, and enjoy yourself at your own risk.
Point 3: What are some places to see and eat near “Nejime Beach”?
So, what are some of the sights and delicacies near “Nejime Beach”?
Since it is located in Yanbaru, it is not as fancy as Chatan or Onna Village, but you can get local products and specialties that are unique to Yanbaru.
Ogimi Village Rural Vitalization Center (former Roadside Station Ogimi) is located a minute’s drive away, and sells not only standard products such as specialty seekers and pineapples, but also “red clay radish,” a secret gourmet product known only to those in the know.
The additive-free marmalade of seekwasa and meat soba noodles are also delicious!
The seekwasser juice and seekwasser burger, which are much more expensive than those at Naha Airport, are definitely worth trying.
