Makiya Beach is located at the foot of the bridge that crosses over to Okubu Island, just before Kouri Island, and takes 1 hour and 10 minutes to reach. It is located at the foot of Haji Okubu Island in the shadow of the Kouri and Walumi Ohashi bridges and is a well-equipped, secluded beach known by those in the know.

Point 1: Where is the location of “Makiya Beach”?

Makiya no Hama” is located at the foot of a bridge on the way to Kouri Island, known as “Love Island,” in Nago City, which is called “Yanbaru.

Despite its location in Yanbaru, it is conveniently accessible in 1 hour and 10 minutes if you skip the highway.

Despite its easy accessibility, the beach is not well known, so bathers, snorkelers, and divers tend to go to other well-known beaches.

However, even on weekends and in summer, the beach is not so packed and is reasonably empty, so it is considered a hole-in-the-wall beach.

Point 2: What kind of beach is “Makiya Beach”?

Makiya Beach is located in a park called Makiya Athletic Plaza. The beach is just at the far end of the park.

Since it is a public park, there is no need to worry about restrooms or parking.

Behind the beautiful sandy beach that appears at low tide, there is a moderately thick grove of trees, which is probably popular because it provides good shade for putting up tents and BBQs.

However, because it is not an official beach, there are no jellyfish nets, let alone lifeguards, so although swimming is not regulated, it is at your own risk, so please be careful.

In addition, with the recent boom in camping and outdoor activities, the Makiya beach has been visited by more campers than before, but this has become a problem because they often do not take their garbage home with them and leave it behind.

Some campers seem to take home their trash, and this goodwill helps keep the beach relatively clean, but it does not change the fact that each individual must take care of his or her trash.

However, it is still important to take care of your trash.

Point 3: What are the recommended spots around “Makiya no Hama”?

Makiya no Hama” is located in Nago City, at the entrance to Yanbaru.

The best part of camping and BBQing is enjoying local delicacies.

Therefore, we recommend “Hanechi no Eki,” a roadside station located 2 minutes away by car.

You can find grilled chicken halves good for BBQ, “new half” made from minced Hanechi chicken, a specialty, brand eggs called “Yanbaru eggs,” fresh local vegetables and fruits, tacos, taco rice, hamburgers, tempura, and po-tama onigiri (rice balls), etc.

Also, since Kouri Island is only a 20-minute drive away, garlic shrimp and pizza from Kouri Ocean Tower are recommended for take-out.
