It takes about 1.5 hours by car from Naha Airport. The beach is located on Ike Island, the furthest of the four remote islands connected by a bridge to Uruma City in central Okinawa. Even though the islands are connected by a bridge, it takes about 4 hours by bus to get there. The beach is located at the end of Ike Island, which is connected to the main island by a bridge.
Point 1: How can I get to “Taihaku Beach”?
To get to “Taihaku Beach,” you must first go from Naha Airport via National Highway 330, Prefectural Highways 36, 37, and 10, then cross the “underwater road” in Uruma City and the bridge connecting the remote islands twice, then cut through the middle of a field to the northern end of the island.
Even though Okinawa has a well-developed highway, it takes an hour and a half to get there.
This “Taihaku Beach” is under the management of a hotel called “Ikejima Onsen AJ Resort Island,” but it can be used by people other than hotel guests.
The main building and cottages are scattered throughout the spacious hotel grounds. A few minutes’ walk down a boardwalk lined with tropical plants will take you to a private beach. There are toilets and showers, but as much as possible, only hotel guests are asked to use them.
Located at the northernmost tip of the remote island, access is inconvenient, but the heavenly white-sand beach awaits you, so it is worth putting in a little effort to get there.
Please note that there is another beach on Ike Island called “Odomari Beach” with similar kanji.
Point 2: What is “Taihaku Beach” like?
For most people, “Taihaku Beach” will be “the most beautiful beach they have ever experienced.
When talking about remote islands with beautiful oceans in Okinawa, the Kerama Islands immediately come to mind, but those who think of visiting remote islands in the central part of Okinawa’s main island, which is difficult to access, are probably repeat visitors who have visited all the standard tourist spots in Okinawa to some extent or those who are tired of the usual tourist attractions.
Taihaku Beach” on Ike Island will satisfy both of them.
The sea is a different shade from the beaches on the main island, and the sand is pure white and private. It is not a formal beach, so there are no marine activities or rentals, but since there are few people, you can be satisfied just by lying on the beach.
You will be satisfied just lying on the beach at your leisure, and you will be immersed in the “Ikea Blue,” not the “Kerama Blue. You will be glad you came even if it is far from the beach!
Point 3: What are the highlights around “Taihaku Beach”?
Taehaku Beach” is located on Ike Island, the innermost of the four remote islands of Uruma City, and each island has its unique attractions.
Near the entrance of Ike Island, there is a “sunflower field” that blooms almost all year round. In Okinawa, where cherry blossoms start blooming around January, you can sometimes see both cherry blossoms and sunflowers at the same time.
On Miyagi Island, just before Ike Island, there is the famous power spot “Kaho Banta,” and on Hamahika Island, the most remote island in front of Ike Island, there are the graves of Silmichu and Amamichu, the legend of the creation of Okinawa and the Okinawan version of Adam and Eve.
Seeing the beautiful ocean and feeling the power of nature will make this an unforgettable trip unique to Okinawa.
