This beach is located on Hamahika Island, the most remote island off the coast of Uruma City in the central part of Okinawa’s main island, about 1 hour and 17 minutes by car from Naha Airport. There is a solemn atmosphere because “Shirmichu,” which enshrines the god of creation of Okinawa, is located nearby. Although activities are not allowed, it is a great place to visit for the beautiful scenery.

Point 1: Surprisingly close? How can I get to “Silmichu’s Beach”?

Silmichu no Hama” is located in the southeastern part of Hamahika Island off the coast of Uruma City, on the Pacific Ocean side of central Okinawa Island.

Although the word “remote island” may give the impression of being far away, it takes only 1 hour and 17 minutes from Naha Airport via National Route 331 and Prefectural Route 36.

On the way, you will pass through an underwater road, so you can see a great panoramic view of the island!

However, access by bus is a bit more difficult, and it can take up to three hours, taking the Ryukyu Bus, Okinawa Bus, and Heianza Sogo Kaihatsu Bus, a local community bus.

Hamahika Island itself, where the beach is located, is a power spot, and the island is solemnly dedicated to the god of the creation of Ryukyu.

Also, because it is on the Pacific Ocean side, the sunrise is beautiful, unlike other major beaches in Okinawa. If possible, it would be great if you could stay on the island and watch the morning scenery!

Point 2: What are the activities at “Silmichu Beach”?

“Sirmichu’s Beach” is a beach near the shrine of Sirmichu, the god of the creation of Ryukyu, and because it is a sacred place, swimming, and activities are prohibited.

Naturally, there are no marine activities or rentals, but locals sometimes let their children play in the water during the summer.

The beautiful emerald-green shallow ocean can be seen after passing through roads lined with houses and wild paths that are typical of Okinawa. The white sandy beach spreads out, giving the impression of a place where the gods of the Ryukyu Kingdom descended. At this point, the level of excitement reaches the maximum.

Also, large rocks that were washed away by earthquakes in ancient times are scattered in the sea, amplifying the spiritual atmosphere.

Point 3: What are the recommended spots near “Silmichu’s Beach”?

Photo: 108 steps to “Sirmichu

Sirmichu no Hama” is located on Hamahika Island, a remote island in Uruma City, and there is not much to see on the island itself.

However, I would still like to visit “Sirmichu”, the place where the creation of Ryukyu was established. There is a cave where Amamichu and Silmichu are said to have lived, and many people visit to pray for a child. Although it is in the category of rumors, a certain member of the royal family visited here and was blessed with a child.

For gourmet food, we recommend Teerabui (8 minutes by car), an old private house restaurant with a unique atmosphere, and Umi no Gallery, Kainowa, Sora to Coffee, and Ukigumo (6 minutes by car).

In particular, be sure to try the strong-flavored Okinawan soba noodles at Teerabui, which looks like it could have appeared in the TV drama series “Churasan!
