About 54 minutes by car from Naha Airport. It is a long white sand beach located on the Pacific Ocean side of Kanamu-cho, central Okinawa Island. It is conveniently located in a beach park, where you can use toilets, showers, changing rooms, and even BBQ. Parking is also free of charge.
Point 1: What is the location of Igei Beach?
Igei Beach” is located in Kanamu-cho, on the Pacific Ocean side of the central Okinawa main island. The area surrounding the beach is a park called “Igei Seaside Park” and is a well-maintained, clean beach.
It takes less than one hour from Naha Airport to Kanamu-cho via Okinawa Expressway.
Since it is inside the park, there are large parking lots on both sides of the beach, and they are free of charge.
After getting out of the car, it is a few minutes walk through the grass to the beach.
The sandy beach has some areas with rough stones, but the beach is covered with white sand and has a beautiful gradation of colors from emerald green to blue, typical of Okinawa.
Point 2: What kind of beach is “Igei Beach”? Are there any activities?
Igei Beach is not an official beach, so there are no activities or rentals.
However, since the ocean is so beautiful, you may occasionally see locals snorkeling, SUP, jetting, etc. Unlike the busy East China Sea side, there are almost no tourists, and the beach is often reserved for private use.
This is great information for those who want to take their time and enjoy marine activities.
However, there are no jellyfish nets and no lifeguards, so swimming and other activities are at your own risk.
With a permit, BBQs are allowed, so please bring your own equipment and food and enjoy the fun with everyone.
Since the park is located within the park, facilities such as toilets, running water, and showers are available for free use.
Point 3: What are the sights and recommended foods around “Igei Beach”?
Igei Beach is located in Kanatake-cho on the Pacific Ocean side of the central Okinawa main island.
When you think of Kanabu-cho, the first thing that comes to mind is “tacos,” and you are quite the gourmet.
The main branch of “King Taco” is located in Kanmu-cho, which is only a 9-minute drive away.
King Taco is a place that even the locals go to when they return to Okinawa, and you should definitely enjoy their classic tastes that need no explanation.
As for attractions, we recommend “Michi no Eki Ginoza” (Roadside Station).
There are several roadside stations in Okinawa, but they are less crowded than those on the East China Sea side.
But it is not without its charms. Since its renovation in 2018, you can experience the whole range of activities such as water sports and playground equipment, gourmet food, shopping, and tourist information.
Jam made from Ginoza fruit at the special sales center on the first floor and reasonably priced sea grapes and mozuku seaweed are also a must-see, as is Mirai Shokudo’s “jagamen,” noodles made from potatoes kneaded into the noodles!
Also, don’t miss the semi-open cafe on the second floor and the spectacular view from the terrace!
