It takes about 1 hour and 20 minutes by car from Naha Airport. This beach is located on Ike Island, the furthest of the four remote islands connected by a bridge from Uruma City in the central part of Okinawa’s main island. Although it is located in the central part of the main island, it takes 1 hour and 20 minutes by car, or nearly 4 hours by bus, to get to this secluded beach. What kind of beach is it?

Point 1: How can I get to “Itsukuma Beach”?

Itsukuma no Hama” is located on Ike Island, the furthest of the four remote islands off the coast of Uruma City in the central part of Okinawa’s main island.

It is located in an unexplored area, reached by car from Naha Airport via the Okinawa Expressway, Prefectural Routes 36, 37, and 10, and finally by crossing an underwater road and two bridges.

Even though it is a remote island, it is still connected by bridges, so the hurdle is still not too high, but it is even harder to reach by bus. Depending on the time of day, it takes at least two transfers to the local community bus, which takes almost four hours to finally reach the destination.

The sense of accomplishment is considerable, but the emerald green ocean that only a remote island can offer spreads out before your eyes, and the sight of this paradise-like scene will inevitably leave you saying, “I’m so glad I came! You will inevitably be moved by this paradisiacal sight.

Itsukuma-no-hama” is located near the entrance of Ike Island and is easy to find.

Point 2: What kind of beach is “Itsukuma Beach”?

Itsukuma Beach” has a concrete seawall and a sandy beach, giving it two different looks. The beach overlooking the Ike Ohashi Bridge in the distance is a long white sand beach, clean and free of trash.

The shallow, emerald green to turquoise blue gradation of the ocean is truly soothing to the soul.

Swimming is not prohibited, but there are no lifeguards or jellyfish nets, so please be careful of the currents and dangerous marine life.

Point 3: What are the sights and food around “Itsukuma Beach”?

Itsukuma no Hama” is located on Ike Island, a remote island off the coast of Uruma City. The remote island is even more laid back than the main island of Okinawa, and offers unique culture and scenery such as salt mills, communal stores, and power spots.

You can experience the so-called “power spots” unique to Okinawa, such as “Shirumichu” on Hamahika Island on the way to Ike Island and “Kaho Banta” on Miyagi Island.

It is truly amazing how the air feels cool and different in subtropical Okinawa.

As for gourmet food, we recommend the vegetarian cuisine at “Ano-do of Old House Cafe Life Medicine (General Incorporated Association LOHAS Village Project)” on Ike Island, which has a wonderful atmosphere.

Reservations are a must as the stacked lunch using 30 different vegetables and grains is popular even on weekdays! Vegan and gluten-free cookies made with wheat from Ike Island are also popular.
