It takes about one hour by car from Naha Airport. This beach is located in Yomitan Village in the central part of Okinawa’s main island. It is a hole-in-the-wall beach that is always empty because it is hard to get to and hard to park, despite its excellent transparency and cleanliness! The famous Toguchi-no-hama beach is right next to it, but if you want to relax, this is the place to go.

Point 1: How can I get to “Momembaru Beach”?

The name of this beach is “Momembaru,” which means “cotton field. It is a beach with a very simple Okinawan impression.

Kiwambara Beach is located in Yomitan Village near Kadena Town, about an hour’s drive from Naha Airport. It is located in Yomitan Village near Kadena Town.

Right next to it is the well-known “Toguchi Beach,” and a little further north is “Torii Beach,” a recreational beach for the U.S. military, which is off-limits to visitors.

After turning off Route 58, it is a three-minute drive through a residential area to the beach.

There is no parking on the beach, and there is only a vacant lot where about three cars can be parked.

There is no parking on the beach, and only a vacant lot for about three cars.

After passing through a residential area and a forest thick with tropical plants, you will see a white ocean plain and emerald green ocean.

The beach is about 500 meters long. There is a long, beautiful sandy beach.

It is a little difficult to get to after turning off National Route 58, and it is hard to find, which is probably why it is always sparsely populated. Therefore, it may be said that it is a good place to relax without people.

Point 2: What are the activities? What kind of beach is “Momembaru Beach”?

Momembaru Beach is not a formal beach, and there are no restrooms or changing rooms, let alone a parking lot, making it a hidden gem among those in the know.

Naturally, there are no activities or rentals, but occasionally you will see people who look like locals snorkeling or swimming. You can take good wedding photos because of the lack of people, and you can also enjoy SUP and camping by yourself in a relaxed atmosphere.

It’s not that crowded, maybe because it’s not that crowded. There is almost no garbage and the beach is really clean.

If you go at low tide, you will see bare coral and after typhoons, there seems to be a lot of seaweed. Marine shoes might be useful.

Sometimes there may be locals who go in to clean the beach.

I am grateful to Okinawan people who have a strong love for their hometown!

Point 3: What are the sightseeing and dining options near “Momembaru Beach”?

Just north of Momembaru Beach are the ruins of Momembaru. The ruins are said to be 2,000 years old, and a box-shaped sarcophagus and a shell mound have been excavated. It is also designated as a national historic site.

There is also a café-like place called “Hamabe no Kitchin Momenbaru” where Chinese food is served. The terrace seating is popular and the cafe has a good reputation.

There is also a “Sanei Daiwan City” just a 7-minute drive away, and there are almost no restaurants in the area.

Therefore, it may be said that this is a beach where one can experience the “luxury of having nothing”.
