It takes about 2.5 hours by car from Naha Airport. It is the northernmost surf point on the main island of Okinawa. As it is said that people who come to Okinawa to surf long to go to this point, it is a point for intermediate surfers and above. There are also many sights and gourmet restaurants such as Oishi Rinzan and Koyo Parlor!

Point 1: How to get to Cape Hendo (Kochan)?

Cape Hedo (Kochan) is the northernmost cape on the main island of Okinawa, and is a favorite surfing spot for intermediate surfers and above.

It is said that 98% of visitors to Okinawa never visit Cape Hedo, but there are some enthusiastic fans among surfers and motorcyclists who are touring around Okinawa.

Everyone seems to be fascinated by the spectacular view from the observatory and the starry sky that looks like a living Milky Way, which makes the description “falling” seem cliché.

Point 2: What kind of beach is “Cape Hendo (Kochan)”?

Cape Hendo (Kochan)” is located at the northernmost tip of the main island of Okinawa and is a sheer cliff. In summer, you can see the beautiful sea with a gradation of emerald green to blue, but in winter, even in Okinawa, the sea is so rough that the waves can splash up to the top of the cliff.

Compared to the central and southern areas, the waves are higher even in the summer, making it an irresistible point for intermediate and advanced surfers. The best season for surfing is from fall to winter, so you must be a very fierce surfer to try to ride the waves in the ocean where the waves are splashing up to the cliffs.

Even if you are used to it, you never know what might happen in the winter sea, so we recommend that you go with someone who knows the local sea well, if possible.

Also, naturally, the high waves are not suitable for swimming.

Point 3: What are the sights and food around “Cape Hendo (Kochan)”?

Although “Cape Hendo (Kochan)” is the northernmost point of the main island of Okinawa, there are many places to see.

First, there is “Oishi Rinzan,” a power spot where a star once fell and a place of worship is located nearby. The mysterious topography and unusual rock formations will make you forget that you are in Okinawa for a while.

The giant 11-meter statue of a Yanbaruquina peeks out from above, and the view of the sea at the northern tip of Okinawa from the chest of the Yanbaruquina is spectacular, as is the image of the monstrous bird looking toward Yoron Island.

As for gourmet food, Cape Heto Koyo Parlor, located a minute’s drive from Cape Heto, has a unique owner and is famous for its “Tankan squash”.

More than that, the “Sri Lankan Curry” on a very authentic banana leaf is also excellent, so please try it!
