About 57 minutes by car from Naha Airport. It is the most cost-effective diner located in Uruma City on the Pacific Ocean side in the central part of Okinawa Island. The salad bar is free if you order a main dish, so you can eat a full meal for around 2,000 yen at the most!
Point 1: What is the location of “Uruma Shimin Shokudo”?
Uruma Citizen’s Restaurant” is located in a commercial facility called “Uruma Marche” in Uruma City, on the Pacific Ocean side of central Okinawa Island.
Although tourists are not familiar with the Pacific Ocean side, it takes less than one hour to get there from Naha Airport via Okinawa Expressway, so it is not too difficult to access.
The area is lined with AEON, Nitori, Cain’s, Don Quijote, and other large retail stores necessary for daily life, and can be said to be an area that is fully within the sphere of daily life of the locals.
It is an area where you can catch a glimpse of local people’s daily lives.
The question arises, “Is the “Uruma Citizen’s Restaurant” available only for Uruma citizens? The question arises, “Are the residents of Uruma the only ones who can use the “Uruma Citizen’s Diner”? The overwhelming majority of users are local people, but it seems that anyone can use the restaurant.
Point 2: What’s on the menu at “Uruma Citizen’s Restaurant”?
Created to promote local production for local consumption, “Uruma Shimin Shokudo” has a variety of menu items, and it is really hard to decide which one to eat.
First of all, as a teishoku-ya, there are set meals such as fried prefectural fish set meal, tiger prawn set meal, and hamburger steak set meal. Prices range from 1,480 yen to 1,780 yen, which is a bit high compared to the price quoted in Okinawa.
However, compared to restaurants at the airport or on Kokusai-dori, it is probably cheaper.
Other dishes include Agu pork gingerbread set menus, rib steak and sirloin steak set menus.
The “market price” fish set meal (about 2,000 yen), which changes daily, is also very popular, with a huge fish cooked in butter!
And what is surprising is that when you order these set menus, a salad bar and soft drink bar (11 kinds) are included. How generous!
Although it is called a “citizen’s diner,” the food is as authentic as any restaurant on Kokusai-dori.
Point 3: “Uruma Shimin Shokudo” Salad Bar alone can be ordered!
At “Uruma Citizen’s Restaurant”, you can order only “Salad Bar”.
The price is 1,100 yen for junior high school students to adults, 650 yen for elementary school students to 5-year-olds, 380 yen for 4 to 3-year-olds, and free for children under 2 years old.
Although it is called a salad bar, there are not only salads of prefectural vegetables, but also tempura, tebichi, mozuku, vegetable soup, jushi, and even Okinawan soba noodles, as well as all the soft drinks you can drink.
For those who cannot finish the main set meal and salad bar, ordering “salad bar only” may be sufficient.
This is a locally produced, locally consumed teishoku-ya that only non-locals know about. Isn’t it the best cosmetics shop?
Please try it.
