It takes about 1 hour and 18 minutes by car from Naha Airport. This beach is located in the southern part of Hamahiga Island, the nearest of the four outlying islands off the coast of Uruma City in the central part of Okinawa’s main island. To be precise, the area of Takae Beach that appears through the bushes behind the saltworks is called “Kubakuma” as a scenic spot, and it is a very clear beach as befits a remote island!。
Point 1: What is the location of “Kubakuma”?
Kubakuma” is a beach located in the southern part of Hamahiga Island, the closest of the four remote islands off the coast of Uruma City on the Pacific Ocean side of central Okinawa’s main island.
Hamaigashima Island is also home to the legend of Adam and Eve, the Okinawan version of “Okinawa Kaibyaku,” known as Silmichu and Amamichu, and is still revered as a very sacred place by the local people.
Access from Naha Airport is via the Okinawa Expressway, and once you reach the Katsuren Peninsula, you can cross the underwater road, which used to be crossed on foot at low tide, and the Hamahiga Bridge to the south of the island.
Although it is on a remote island, it is accessible in 1 hour and 18 minutes, which is probably one of the better access points.
Also, the underwater road has no bridges, so you can enjoy the direct view of the ocean.
Point 2: What kind of beach is “Kubakuma”?
Kubakuma” refers to the scenic area of the “Takae Beach” area, which can be accessed through the nearby saltworks.
If you look at a map, from the end of the Takaesu saltworks to the beach, the sea seen through the thick tropical vegetation and roadless paths is most impressive.
From Takae Beach to the southernmost peninsula of Hamahika Island, the coastline is a stretch of sandy beach called “Kubakuma,” which is a scenic spot.
The water is crystal clear, and the emerald green sea looks like a swimming pool. It is a beautiful beach, but not many tourists come here, and even in the on-season, only a few locals go swimming. The beach is not very crowded for its size, so you can spend a relaxing time there.
Point 3: What are some places to see and eat around “Kubakuma”?

Kubakuma” is located in the southwestern part of Hamahika Island, off the coast of Uruma City, in the central part of Okinawa’s main island.
This Hamaigashima Island is a gourmet island that people don’t know about. There are so many popular restaurants that people come from far and wide to seek gourmet food, as you may suddenly see a line of people waiting in line on an otherwise deserted island.
One of the best is COCO SHRIMP, a garlic shrimp restaurant in the northeastern part of the island! Once you try the rich garlic shrimp fried in trans fat-free coconut oil, you will be addicted.
Another must-try is the mozuku tempura at Maruyoshi Foods, a deep-fried food store in the northwestern part of the island! The crab mozuku tempura, mozuku croquettes, and many other mozuku dishes go great with Orion beer!
