Showa items are all over the place! I’m interested in the retro “Coffee Shop Laramie,” which is open only 3 days a week!

About 19 minutes by car from Naha Airport. This retro coffee shop is located in Yorimiya, east of Naha City. Open only three days a week, it offers not only special coffee, but also old-fashioned menu items such as pancakes, cream soda, cheese toast, and Neapolitan.

Point 1: Is this an area tourists don’t go to? What is the location of Coffee Shop Laramie?

Coffee Shop Laramie” is located in Yorimiya, east of Naha City.

It takes about 20 minutes by car from Naha Airport and is located between Kokusai-dori and Shikinaen.

It is an area rarely visited by tourists.

To get there from Naha Airport, take a car via Route 332 or a bus from the Naha Bus Terminal, take the Naha Bus No. 4 bound for Kamiizumi (for Yogi crossroads), and get off at the Mayashi Elementary School!

A brick building that looks like it has a long history. A barrel-shaped umbrella stand. The “open for business” sign. A glass showcase.

Beyond the glass door that seems to ring a cowbell when pressed, a retro coffee shop world unfolds!

Inside, you will find an old jukebox, a Simon and Garfunkel LP, and a red telephone! I was already struck by the perfect Showa items.

I was surprised to see a surprisingly large number of young customers. The retro sugar pots and stainless steel coffee fresheners on the tables seem to look fresh.

Originally a coffee shop for many years, the store was taken over by the previous owner’s grandfather and grandmother in 2013 and reopened as a specialty coffee shop.

The fact that it is open only three days a week is typical of Okinawa, where the “Uchinaa time” takes precedence.

Point 2: What kind of food menu does “Coffee Shop Laramie” have?

Coffee Shop Laramie” has a menu that includes a variety of meals.

First, there is Neapolitan, a typical Showa-era food with a strong ketchup smell. The rich ketchup flavor is addictive.

Then there is the cheese toast. It looks like a thick slice of bread, but the cheese melting on the baguette-like bread looks so delicious!

And either homemade bean butter or cheese and ham hot sandwiches. If the price had not gone up, it would be as inexpensive as 400 yen!

These are the only three items on the menu, but they have a devoted fan base and are always being ordered.

Point 3: What kind of café-style menu does “Coffee Shop Laramie” have?

While Coffee Shop Laramie does not have a large menu of food items, it has a large variety of café items on its menu.

First of all, the store boasts three types of specialty coffee, from its original “Laramie Blend” to deep roast and seasonal blends. The beans are also carefully selected.

The pancakes that many customers order are not the fluffy ones that are popular now, but the traditional flat ones. Even if they are a little burnt, they are excellent when soaked in butter and maple syrup!

Another is the old-fashioned visual “coffee jelly” in a retro container. It is delicious when mixed with ice cream.

A parfait with bananas, chocolate, ice cream, and cornflakes.

Handmade scones, pudding, and original cookies with the “LALAMIE” logo are also sometimes served, which is fun!

Also, on days when the store is closed, ukulele and other workshops are sometimes held.

In this way, Coffee Shop LALAMIE is a new-style cafe that mixes the best parts of Showa-era coffee shops with the best parts of today’s cafes. Please try it for yourself!
