Kutaka Mingei Shop is a folk craft store located in the center of Kokusai-Dori, just across the street from Tembusu Naha. It carries not only traditional Okinawan crafts but also many folk crafts from around the world. The shop has been in business for 40 years, and even the owner of a gift store in Okinawa praises the excellent selection here. Despite its location in the middle of Kokusai-dori, this souvenir shop is somewhat of a hole-in-the-wall spot, with izakaya (Japanese-style pubs) and fast-food signs conspicuously absent. It is a long-established folk art store known by those in the know for its wide selection of goods.

THE antique atmosphere of the Kuko Mingei Store
What I like about Kuko Mingei Shop is the good atmosphere of the products that you feel the moment you enter. The space is a little overwhelming, yet intriguing, with many different kinds of products from all over the world lined up in a narrow space. As you would expect from a long-established shop, you can feel quite a bit of history from the bashofu, textiles, and dyed goods that are neatly lined up in the show window. Antique lovers may be attracted to this shop.
Ryukyu lacquerware and Kanzeku (gold-work) ornamental hairpins are also beautifully arranged, and their presence and beauty can be felt even through the glass. Just looking at them makes me happy, so I often look at them.
Focus on traditional Okinawan handicraft accessories
Kuko Mingei Shop offers a wide variety of small items that are traditional Ryukyuan crafts but could be used in daily life. Among them, earrings and accessories in the vermilion color of lacquer may be purchased only here. There are many beautiful accessories that would look great with a kimono or yukata. In addition, Ryukyu lacquer chopstick rests, coasters and luncheon mats made of Shuri-ori fabric, and other small items that easily incorporate the Okinawan atmosphere into everyday life are sold at reasonable prices.

I want you to stop by first to choose a souvenir or gift.
The Kutaka Mingei Shop has a wide selection of products, making it a great place to pick out souvenirs and gifts.
In particular, there is a wide variety of yachimun, from bowls and plates to boar cups and beer glasses. There are also a wide variety of designs, including cute, austere, and perfect for pairs, so you can find the perfect yachimun or Ryukyu glassware for any age group.
