A cafe with a great atmosphere in Motobu-cho!

First of all, “Hakoniwa” is located in the inland area of Motobu-cho, in the central part of Okinawa’s main island. The map shows that it is a 1 hour and 20-minute drive from Naha Airport and a 30-minute drive from Churaumi Aquarium. It is located through the Yanbaru forest and may be quite difficult to reach on foot.

However, looking at the exterior of Hakoniwa, it is a place that makes you want to go there even if it is a little too much. There are many repeat customers who have visited many times.

The open windows of this 50-year-old traditional Okinawan house, the tropical light streaming in, the lunch and drinks to be enjoyed there. The fantasy doesn’t stop and your mind is already at the old private house cafe “Hakoniwa.

Point 1: You can also enjoy packed lunches (food)!

Hakoniwa is closed on Wednesdays and Thursdays.

They originally offered plates for lunch, but the Corona disaster changed it to take-out boxed lunches.

Depending on the Corona situation in Okinawa, are they going back to serving plate lunches again?

A hearty bento lunch box with Okinawa’s specialty, bitter gourd, and other ingredients, costs a whopping 500 yen! This price is cozy enough in this atmosphere.

Point 2: You can also enjoy different shaved ice!

In hot Okinawa, you may be craving cold shaved ice.

However, since we are in such a hot atmosphere, you may not want to go for the strawberry or melon ice that is so common here.

At Hakoniwa, however, they have considered this as well.

This shaved ice is called “brown sugar milk mung bean.

The brown sugar combined with milk has an indescribably gentle taste.

And it tastes even better when eaten in an old house with a breeze blowing through it.

Point 3: Marriage of sweets and baked goods!

Here at Hakoniwa, the pastries made by the three women are also delicious.

For example, this pastry is “Tankan and Cream Cheese Pound Cake.

The soft dough is mixed with jam made from mandarin oranges picked in Izumi, Motobu Town.

The ingredients for the pastry are also locally produced for local consumption.

The plate on which the cake is served was made by the owner Taniguchi’s husband, potter Muroo Taniguchi. It is a “Yachimun” (pottery) unique to Okinawa.

The chunky form and gentle colors are beautiful and seem to accept all kinds of dishes and even sweets.

If you like it, you can purchase it on the spot, which is a nice point.

Point 3: Shaved ice is delicious!
