About 36 minutes by car from Naha Airport. Located in Yonabaru-cho, in the southern part of Okinawa’s main island, this restaurant has the unique form of a diner and store. It has a great nostalgic sound. An unlikely diner and store. The convenience for residents has been greatly improved! Even as a tourist, I would love to visit there!
Point 1: 36 minutes west of Naha! What is the location of the “Mijima Community Shops”?
Mijima Community Kiosk” is a restaurant and community kiosk located in Yonabaru Town, about 36 minutes by car from Naha to the east.
The name “Mijima” sounds nostalgic, but it is no longer in use in the Naha area and is usually found in the northern part of the country or on remote islands where there are no convenience stores.
The communal kiosk, which is operated jointly by residents and also serves as a community center, is becoming a thing of the past in urban areas.
This new joint store, which opened in October 2024, was opened by a young man who yearned for such nostalgia and renovated an old private house.
The shop was renovated over a year with the help of local children and residents, who painted and renovated it while also working at their day jobs!
It has been beautifully renovated, but it still retains a nostalgic atmosphere!
From Naha Airport, a 36-minute drive east will take you to Nambaebaru Town. By bus, take Naha Bus #111 to “Kuniba”, then transfer to Toyo Bus #38 and get off at “Yonabaru-cho Town Hall Entrance”. It is a 2-minute walk to the restaurant.
Although it is newly built, it has a retro appearance like an old inn town. What in the world is there to eat and sell?
Point 2: Introduction of the meal menu at the “Mijima Community Shop”!
The restaurant at the “Mijima Common Shops” offers Okinawan soba noodles and set menus.
There are six types of Okinawa soba: Uega-soba, Samba Soba, Soki-soba, Soba with Soy Sauce, Pork and Egg Soba, and Yushi Tofu Soba. Eight set menus are available: Pork and Egg Set Meal, Karaage Set Meal, Ginger Yaki Set Meal, Taco Rice, Yushi Tofu Set Meal, Tempura Set Meal, Sashimi Set Meal, and Hijiru (goat’s soup).
Okinawa soba and juicy soup are also available as a set.
This is a great option for those who are not satisfied with just soba!
The taste is also quite favorable, and the portions are so large that you can take several items to share.
Also, in December, the restaurant will start operating at night. Maybe it will eventually become an izakaya-style restaurant. I hear that it is the sole topic of conversation among the locals.
Point 3: What kinds of things are sold at the “Miejma Community Shop”?
What exactly is sold at the “Mijima Community Shop”?
Mainly food, such as sashimi tuna, eggs, and Uchina Tempura, Okinawa’s soul food, etc. There are also cup noodles and sweets.
There are also cup noodles and snacks.
Since it has just opened, the selection is limited, but it is expected to increase in the future.
Located in Yonabaru-cho, in the southern part of Okinawa’s main island, “Mijima Kyodo Kiosk” is a combination of a cafeteria and a public kiosk. The nostalgic appearance of the store, which opened in October 2024 in a renovated old private house, is sure to become a local favorite in the future.
We are looking forward to seeing the dining room and the store’s selection of goods increase in the future. Please come and visit.
