A store featuring unique works of art created at Yachimun-no-Sato

At the Yomitanzan Pottery Joint Shop in Yomitan Village, visitors can purchase Yachimun (pottery) produced by four pottery studios in the Yachimun Village joint kiln. Inside the distinctive building with a triangular roof and rounded stone walls with “Yomitan-yaki” written on it, you will find a wide variety of unique works of art! The colorful and beautiful pottery is unique to Okinawa and can be enjoyed just by looking at it. Why don’t you look for your favorite piece in the spacious store?

Point 1: Perfect for first-time visitors!

One of the best things about the Yomitan Pottery Joint Shop is the large number of yachimunun on display, and since you can see the works of four different potteries at once, you can choose the one you like best or the shape you want from among many. You can see the differences between each kiln and pick up a piece of pottery, and take your time to taste and select the best one. If you are visiting Yachimun-no-sato for the first time or if you are nervous about entering each studio, this may be a good place to start. Many small plates can be purchased for less than 1,000 yen, and they will even wrap them for souvenirs.

Point 2: Eating with Yachimun is great!

I, too, made my “yachimun debut” with a yachimun that I purchased at the Yomitan Pottery Joint Direct Sales Store. I wanted to buy something to commemorate my visit to Okinawa, but I had no idea what to buy, but I found my favorite yachimun because there were so many choices in colors, shapes and patterns. Whenever I put food on the yachimun, I feel like I am eating Okinawan food. I also feel that no matter what is in the food or how it tastes, it looks beautiful on the yachimun. It is a very Okinawan item that can be used for a long time, so it is perfect as a souvenir for yourself.

Point 3: Enjoy walking around Yachimun-no-Sato

Yachimun-no-Sato is an area with a nostalgic atmosphere. The village, with about 20 workshops, has developed as a base for Yachimun artists, and you can enjoy just walking around the village, which takes about 15 minutes, or you can visit each workshop and look for Yachimun that can only be purchased here. You will enjoy a relaxing time while immersing yourself in a bit of nostalgia. Free parking is available at the entrance, so it is recommended to stop by on your way to the museum.
