Have you heard of Taimo pie? It is a simple confectionery made from Taimo (taro), which has been popular in Okinawa since ancient times.

This time, we would like to introduce “Nakatomi Confectionary Shop,” a long-established and hidden gem!

Tamo-Imo, a traditional Okinawan vegetable

Taimo” is one of the most beloved vegetables in Okinawa since ancient times. It is named “Mizuimo” because it is grown in rice paddies, but in the Okinawan dialect, it is called “Tanmu.

It is sticky like a taro but has a sweet taste.

It is an indispensable ingredient for Okinawan celebrations and is usually mashed into Dengaku, or deep fried to enjoy its rice cake-like texture.

The rice pie, which varies in shape and size depending on the store, is said to have originated from “Nakatomi Confectionary Shop” established in 1989.

Crispy, crispy, and fluffy.

The rice pie from Nakatomi Confectionery is a small pie, about 10 cm in diameter. The pie crust that envelops the taimo is crispy. One bite of the pie and you will feel the crispy texture and the sweetness of the taimo bean paste will spread in your mouth.

The fusion of the pie crust and taimo bean paste has a texture that is different from both Western and Japanese sweets. The simple taste is so good that you can eat as many as you want.

Can be shipped within and outside of the prefecture for souvenirs.

The store also offers shipping within and outside of Okinawa Prefecture. Since they are individually wrapped, you can send them home in advance and hand them out as travel souvenirs when you get home.

They are sent refrigerated, so when you eat them, please re-bake them in a toaster!

By the way, they are sold at supermarkets in Nakagusuku Village, but we highly recommend that you go to a direct sales shop.

If you ask the shopkeeper, you can eat them freshly made and hot on the spot. The taste is exceptional.

The place is a little hard to find, but you can go there by relying on the streamers and signs. Give it a try!
