It takes about 1 hour and 30 minutes by car from Naha Airport. This beach is located in the northern part of Ike Island, the farthest of the four remote islands in Uruma City in the central Okinawa main island. The beach is used as a private beach for the guests of a nearby hotel, but it is open to everyone and managed by the hotel, so it is a very well maintained beach.
Point 1: What is the location of “Taihaku Beach”?
Where is “Taihaku Beach”? Many people may wonder where “Taihaku Beach” is located.
Of the four outlying islands on the Pacific Ocean side of central Okinawa Island, Ike Island is the furthest away, connected to Uruma City by a bridge, and “Taihaku Beach” is located on the northern side of the island.
It takes about one and a half hours from Naha Airport by car. Considering that it takes about the same time to get to Churaumi Aquarium in Motobu Town, which is much further north than Uruma City, you can see how difficult it is to get to the aquarium.
However, even though they are remote islands, they are connected by bridges, so it is helpful that there is no need to transfer to a boat.
This beach is reached only after crossing the island from the airport, passing by Ginowan, Koza, and the ruins of Katsuren Castle in Uruma City, and crossing the underwater road and Ike Ohashi Bridge, giving it a very out-of-the-way feeling. It seems to create a bit of drama even before you reach it!
The moderately maintained beach is perfect for an extraordinary experience, so why not give it a try?
Point 2: What kind of beach is “Taihaku Beach”?
Taihaku Beach” is managed by a hotel called “Ike Island AJ Island Resort” in the northern part of Ike Island, and it seems to be used like a private beach for the guests of this hotel.
However, according to the ordinance, it seems that anyone can enter the beach, so it is recommended to say no to the hotel front desk before entering.
A 30-meter promenade has been built from the hotel, and at the entrance to the beach is a white gate that reminds one of the Aegean Sea!
Descending to the beach, you can see the emerald green sea stretching out beyond the pure white sands, a picture-postcard sight.
At this stage, you can already feel a sense of the extraordinary, but once you enter the ocean, you will feel even more extraordinary.
In the shallow water, you can see many tropical fish among the seaweed instead of coral.
Although it depends on the conditions, after a typhoon, there are large, colorful tropical fishes such as bears, which are well-known for Nemo, as well as sargassum, snappers, butterfly fish, and snappers, and the water is crystal clear, so it is great to see them clearly.
Of course, even without snorkeling, just relaxing on the moderately spacious and private beach is enough to feel relaxed.
There is a rocky beach at the edge of the beach, and at low tide, small, colorful fish can be seen in the tide pools, which is also a unique sight on a remote island.
Although this beach is managed by the hotel, it is a natural beach with no jellyfish nets, so please use caution when swimming and snorkeling, and be sure to wear a life jacket.
Point 3: What about sightseeing around “Taihaku Beach”?
There are no tourist attractions in the vicinity of “Taihaku Beach.
Ike Island has “sunflower fields” as shown in the photo, and since it is a warm place, it is rare to see sunflowers not only in summer but also in winter.
Besides, “Kafu Banta” on Miyagi Island and “Katsuren Castle Ruins” before crossing the underwater road are also on the way, so you should definitely stop by these spots!
In particular, “Kaho Banta,” which means “Cape of Happiness” in the Okinawan language, is a power spot and a spectacular view spot. The nearby salt factory with its unique way of making salt is also interesting.
