About 51 minutes by car from Naha Airport. This beach is located in the southern part of the main island of Okinawa. It is a wild beach with rugged stones, far from the beautiful Okinawan beach in your mind. It has a secret, private atmosphere that does not often appear on maps or in navigation systems! It is recommended to relax and enjoy the scenery!

Point 1: What is the location of “Komesu Beach”?

Komesu Beach” is located in Itoman City in the southern part of Okinawa Island. Since the expressway is well maintained, it is very convenient to come here from Naha Airport in less than one hour along Route 331.

The southern part of the main island of Okinawa was the site of fierce fighting in World War II, and there are memorials such as Himeyuri no To (Himeyuri Pagoda) that give one a mystical feeling.

However, the sea in the southern part of the island is so calm and beautiful that it makes you forget the tragic history of the area.

The Yonesu Coast is located near the southernmost tip of Itoman City, where there are no islands or other obstructions, and on a clear day, you can see a bright blue horizon.

Point 2: What kind of beach is “Komesu Beach”?

What kind of scenery do you imagine when you think of the coast of Okinawa? Probably, almost 100% of people imagine shallow, pure sandy beaches and emerald-green oceans.

Unfortunately, “Yonesu Coast” is different from a standard “Okinawan Sea” and has a wild atmosphere with rocks.

This “Komesu Beach” is not a beach for swimming, but a favorite beach for surfers because of its good waves. Even if you look at Instagram, you will see surfers waiting for the waves or boldly taking on the big waves.

This beach is also visited by rare birds, and rare birds can be seen throughout the year, so it is not only for bird lovers but also for those who just want to relax.

Thus, “Komesu Coast” is a mecca for surfers, and you can see wild coastal scenery that is different from the Okinawan sea in your mind’s eye.

Point 3: What are the recommended sightseeing spots and restaurants near “Komesu Beach”?

There are many sightseeing spots and recommended restaurants in Itoman City, where “Komesu Beach” is located.

First of all, the famous “Himeyuri Pagoda” can be reached in 6 minutes by car. Unfortunately, the Peace Memorial Museum, located a short distance away, is currently closed, but in this day and age when “war” is in the spotlight, it is worth a visit.

Also, just 7 minutes away by car is the Ryukyu Glass Village, where you can experience Ryukyu glass making, and 30 minutes away is Okinawa’s largest power spot, Saiba Utaki, where you can enjoy the beauty of the Ryukyu Islands.

As for restaurants, we recommend “Makabe China,” which serves Okinawan specialties in an old Ryukyuan house. It is a relaxing space where the wind blows through, and you can feel that it has been through a war, as there are bullet holes in the walls.

Around the “Road to Niraikanai” in Tsukishiro, Nanjo City, a 30-minute drive away, you will find many stylish restaurants and cafes, including “OOLOO.

The southern part of the main island of Okinawa is a fun after-beach area!
