It takes about one hour by car from Naha Airport. The beach is located on the Pacific Ocean side of Uruma City. It is a private beach and some people say “there is nothing to do here, so it is good”. The water is clean and popular among marine sports enthusiasts!
Point 1: What is the location of “Kombu Beach”?
Kombu Beach” is a very unique name, but it is also the name of an area in Uruma City.
There are various theories as to why it was named this way, such as because kelp was harvested there, or because “kuboji” became “kupu” (kelp) in the Okinawan way.
Kelp Beach is located in Uruma City in the central part of Okinawa Island.
It is located in the northern part of Uruma City, and the “Sanei Ishikawa City” can be reached in 6 minutes by car.
This beach is short and private, but it is not a formal beach, so there are no activities or rentals.
However, the water is very clean, so local divers and others can often be seen walking around in wetsuits.
It is more of a beach for marine sports enthusiasts than a beach for swimming.
Point 2: Can I do marine activities at “Kombu Beach”?
There is no parking lot, so after parking your car in a vacant lot, you will be taken to the beach via a beast-like path lined with tropical plants.
Kombu Beach has a sandy beach, but it is very small and has the feel of a private beach.
There are rocky areas and bare tree roots around the beach, and the wild scenery can make you feel as if you have arrived on a deserted island.
The water is very clean, and local divers, surfers, and snorkelers can be seen. The beaches are not as crowded or well-equipped as beaches on the west coast with large hotels nearby, but some people find this to be a good thing.
Point 3: What are the recommended spots around “Kombu Beach”?
Kombu Beach” is located in Uruma City in the central part of Okinawa Island, but since it is in the northern part of Uruma City, recommended sightseeing spots include “Southeast Botanical Garden” (14 minutes by car) and “Katsuren Castle Ruins” (20 minutes by car).
At “Southeast Botanical Garden,” there are many attractions, such as not only the chance to touch tropical plants but also the chance to interact with animals and experience programs that can be enjoyed by all three generations!
Katsuren Castle Ruins” is famous as the castle of Ahmawari, and is recommended not only for its romantic atmosphere of the Ryukyu Dynasty but also for its spectacular view!
As for gourmet food, we recommend “Mother Leaf” for its reasonably priced yet rich and delicious Kuromitsu Kinako Zenzai (soybean-flavored sweet made from kuromitsu soybean flour)!
