About 46 minutes by car from Naha Airport. The beach is located on an island on the Pacific Ocean side of Nanjo City in the southern part of Okinawa’s main island. The mysterious torii-like monument and fence at the entrance make it hard to tell if you are allowed to enter or not. What is its secret?
Point 1: What is the location of “Adochi Island Beach”?
Adochishima Beach is located on an island off the southeastern coast of Nanjo City in the southern part of Okinawa’s main island.
It is within walking distance when the tide is low, and is connected by a 50-meter-long walkway, so it does not feel like an island, but it is a definite “island” as seen in aerial photographs.
At the entrance of the island, there is a monument that looks like a torii gate, and there is a fence to prevent entry.
The “torii”-like monument gives the impression that the island belongs to a religious group, which is a bit disconcerting.
If you look closely, you can see what looks like sandy beaches on the front and back sides of the island.
However, when the tide is low, you can cross the island on foot, so the fences are useless, and the locals play with the tide and fish. I like the loose feeling that is typical of Okinawa!
I was worried that it might be a mysterious religious group. It seems that the concern about a “mysterious religious group” was a misunderstanding.
As it turns out, it was correct that the company owns the property, but they are in the process of building something like a theme park.

When the theme park is completed, it will be open to the public on an “introduction only” basis.

Point 2: Are there any activities at “Adochi Island Beach”?
Unfortunately, there are no activities or rentals at Adochi Island Beach as there are at other large beaches.
The shallow, emerald-green waters are beautiful, and the atmosphere is somewhat laid-back and relaxing, as is typical of southern waters.
The atmosphere is different at high and low tides, so even if you don’t do any activities, just looking at the scenery is relaxing.
Point 3: What are the recommended spots and eateries near “Adochi Island Beach”?
Adochishima Beach” is located in Nanjo City in the southern part of Okinawa’s main island.
There are many places to visit in the southern part of the main island of Okinawa, and we recommend a visit to “Saiba Utaki” where the legend of Adam and Eve from the creation of Okinawa remains.
It is the best power spot and a sacred place of prayer for Okinawans, and even though it is hot in Okinawa, the air feels cooler there.
For gourmet food, we recommend “Cafe Kurukuma” near the ruins of Chinen Castle, an 8-minute drive away. It is a café and Thai restaurant with a terrace with a spectacular view. The spicy Thai food arranged to be easy to eat for Japanese people goes well with Okinawa’s hot climate.
There is also blue rice and tea cooked with tea from a legume plant called butterfly pea. This butterfly pea is one of the superfoods, and we recommend drinking it as a tea to help you sleep well.
