It takes about 2 hours by car from Naha Airport. The beach is located 10 minutes by car from Cape Hendo, the northernmost tip of Okinawa’s main island. It may seem secluded and wild, but both the seawall and the beach are well maintained and clean. However, there are many stones and shells, so don’t forget to bring your marine shoes!

Point 1: 2 hours from the airport! What is the location of Ginama Beach (Ginama Kaigan)?

Ginama Kaigan is a beach located 10 minutes by car south of Cape Hendo, the northernmost cape on Okinawa’s main island.

You can see how far away it is by driving north on Route 58, where Route 58 turns around and makes a U-turn.

It is located near “Oishi Rinzan” and “Kayauchi Banta,” two of Okinawa’s most famous power spots.

It is probably an area that 99% of ordinary tourists never set foot in, and is reached by those who aim to circumnavigate Okinawa by bicycle or on foot.

It is a hardcore “Yanbaru” area, and the northern part of the island is famous for its beautiful ocean, with the clarity of the water increasing the further north you go. The clearer the water becomes the further north you go, and the less people go, the more beautiful it is, so I highly recommend a visit.

Point 2: What kind of beach is “Ginama Kaigan”?

Ginama Kaigan is a beach that can be reached after a two-hour journey from Naha Airport.

It is a long beach with white sand, but there are many pieces of coral and stones, and bare feet can be tough.

It is located 10 minutes by car south of Cape Hedo Misaki, the northernmost point of the main island of Okinawa, on the East China Sea side.

The clarity of the ocean is impressive and there are tropical fish that are not found in the central and southern parts of the main island, so snorkeling is fun, but swimming and snorkeling are at your own risk, so please be very careful even if you are wearing a life jacket.

Point 3: What are the sights and food around Ginama Kaigan?

Ginama Kaigan is located in the quintessential Yanbaru area in the northern part of the main island of Okinawa.

The “Yanbaru Kuna Observation Deck” is a visual feast, and the “Oishi-Rinzan” where you can experience the power of nature firsthand is a must-see.

As for gourmet food, the “Sri Lankan Curry” (photo) at “Cape Hendo Koyo Parlor” with its famous owner is highly recommended.

The meat and vegetables, which seem to be cooked in a mess, are first served separately, and then slowly mixed together as “etiquette” dictates.
