Sukuji Beach” is located in the northwestern part of the island, 34 minutes by car from “Minanujima Airport” in Ishigaki Island.
It is in the same direction as “Kabira Bay” and “Kabira Bay Observation Deck,” which are the standard sightseeing spots on Ishigaki Island, but since it is on the opposite side of the peninsula, the beach is not crowded with tourists and is relatively quiet throughout the year.
From Nannu Airport, it takes 34 minutes via National Road 390, Prefectural Road 209, Prefectural Road 87, and Prefectural Road 79, or by bus: take the limousine bus to Ishigaki Bus Terminal and the Route 9 Kabira Resort Line bus, get off at Kabira Rotary, and a 20-minute walk will bring you to the bottom.
Whether by car or bus, it is relatively easy to get there without getting lost.
Point 2: What kind of beach is “Sukuji Beach”? Are there any activities or rentals?
Sukuji Beach” is a hole-in-the-wall beach near “Kabira Bay” which is one of the most popular sightseeing spots on Ishigaki Island.
Although it is in the same area, it feels good to head to the hole-in-the-wall beach with Kabira Bay, where everyone else is heading, by your side.
The clarity of water is quite clear, clearly different from the color of the ocean on the main island of Okinawa, and the shallow water makes the emerald green color more beautiful.
The 1 km-long arc-shaped beach is very beautiful and impressive.
This beach is well maintained, with lifesavers and jellyfish nets, so even small children can play safely.
In the summer season of July and August, people seem to come here to swim, and in cooperation with “Ishigaki Seaside Hotel” near this beach, you can also enjoy activities at “Sukuji Beach”.
There are only a few types of activities, but they offer SUP, banana boat, snorkeling, and original tours.
Both SUP and clear SUP can be rented, so if you ride at sunset as shown in the photo, you can enjoy the magnificent tropical sunset.
Floating rings (800 yen) and marine towels (100 yen) are also available for rent.
Parking, showers for washing hands and feet, changing rooms, and lockers are also free, which is very nice! Note that full-fledged showers for washing your body will be charged 100 yen per day.
Point 3: Introduce gourmet food around “Sokoji Beach”!
The photo is “Onisasa”, the soul food of Ishigaki Island.
Sukuji Beach” is located in the northwestern part of Ishigaki Island, and there are not many restaurants around the beach.
There are not many restaurants around “Sukuji Beach”, which is a bit standard, but we recommend you to stop by “Tofu no Higa”, a tofu store established more than 60 years ago.
The mildly flavored soup and tofu taste are a perfect match! The taste is addictive. The taste is even better when eaten in a semi-open-air restaurant with a tropical breeze blowing through!
The “Yushi Tofu Set Meal” combined with Okinawa soba is a must-try. Yakisoba made with Okinawa soba noodles is also delicious. However, be prepared to wait in line in the morning as it is a popular restaurant.
The other is “Chinen Shokai,” a common store about 30 minutes from the port.
The “community store,” a local convenience store that is unique to Okinawa and Amami culture, is unique, but the original “Onisasa,” a combination of onigiri (rice ball) and fried chicken, is also fun.
The most popular types are onigiri Moriyama, yukari, and juicy, and the fries include not only white meat but also fried shrimp, minced pork cutlet, croquette, etc. You can enjoy choosing your rice and fries, and pour your favorite seasonings to complete the dish.
Please come and experience the soul food of Ishigaki Island, “Onisasa”!
