The Naha City Traditional Crafts Museum is located on the second floor of Tembusu Naha, in the center of Kokusai-dori. It is a place where you can feel the depth and charm of Naha’s traditional crafts.

There is a hands-on workshop where visitors can experience making traditional Naha crafts, a traditional crafts store with a collection of Naha City crafts, and an exhibition room and gallery where visitors can experience the charm of traditional craft works. Located a 5-minute walk from Makishi Station on the monorail, visitors can also enjoy the area while touring Kokusai-dori and the Makishi Public Market.

At the Naha City Traditional Crafts Museum’s hands-on workshop, visitors can enjoy five different experiences.
At the workshop of Okuhara Glass Works, a long-established Ryukyu glass manufacturer, you can experience authentic “Ryukyu glass blowing” using recycled glass, “Ryukyu bottle mold experience” where you can dye your own original Ryukyu bottle mold, a famous traditional Okinawan dye craft, “Shuri weaving experience” where each strand is carefully woven, “Tsuboya pottery experience” where you can make authentic Shi-sa and You can also experience “Tsuboya-yaki”, where you can make authentic Shisa and vessels, and “Tsuishiki”, a technique of Ryukyu lacquer ware.

Exhibition room to learn about the charm of Naha’s traditional crafts

The exhibition room displays a variety of historical works and masterpieces of traditional crafts of Naha City. The museum is equipped with everything from works by living national treasures to monitors that provide easy-to-understand explanations of the production process of traditional crafts. Visitors can feel the colors and textures of Shuri textiles, Bingata, and Tsuboya pottery, and learn more about the history and works of art.
