About 52 minutes by car from Naha Airport. It is a tidal flat located in Onna Village in the central part of Okinawa’s main island. The shallow water continues all the way down to the inlet, so high waves do not come in that often, making it a great place for small children to swim. It is also a beautiful spot for sunsets.

Yakatagatabaru” is a marshland located in the central part of the main island of Okinawa.

It takes 51 minutes from Naha Airport via Okinawa Expressway or Route 58.

You may think it is a natural shallow beach, but it is convenient because “Onna Village Learning Center” is nearby and you don’t need to worry about toilets, showers, parking, etc.
Point 2: What kind of beach is “Yakatagatabaru”?
Yakatagatabaru” is called a marshland, but it is not a marshland as most people think of it. It is not read as “shi-gen” but “gatabaru,” which is more like Okinawa.
The word “marshland” is generally associated with an image of a watery field with plants growing in it, like Oze, but here at “Yakada Marsh” it becomes like a marshland depending on the ebb and flow of the tide.
Therefore, depending on the degree of ebb tide, there may be no water at all and you may not be able to swim, so you may want to check the ebb and flow time beforehand before visiting.
On the other hand, at high tide, the emerald green sea looks like a swimming pool, and the scenery of rugged rocks protruding out of the water, which is typical of Okinawa, is soothing. In the distance is the turquoise sea and sky.
Swimming is at your own risk, but even though the waters are shallow, please be careful of the tides and dangerous creatures such as habu jellyfish.
