Okinawa is associated with eating ice cream all year round. About 50 minutes by car from Naha Airport, I went to Blue Seal Ice Cream Lycoming to try some Okinawan local and limited-time-only ice cream. Both were rich and delicious!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Point 1: What kind of ice cream is Blue Seal Ice Cream?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Zubari! Blue Seal Ice Cream is ice cream born in America and raised in Okinawa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Blue Seal Ice Cream was founded in 1948 in Gushigawa City, Okinawa, under a contract with the United States.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 1976, the company changed its name to For Most Blue Seal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After going through many twists and turns, including stock transfers and production integration, the company is now a member of the Sapporo Group with 19 stores in Okinawa Prefecture, 9 stores in the Kanto region including Haneda Airport, Yokohama, and Yebisu Garden Place, and many stores in the Chubu and Kinki regions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So it is not Blue Seal Ice Cream that is now out of the gate!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Point 2: What are the recommended local and limited time items?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Blue Seal Ice Cream is delicious no matter which ice cream you try, but the local and limited time offerings are the best.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I ordered “Salted Chinsuko” and “Beniimo Cheese Biscuit” because “I came all the way to Okinawa”.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Both were shockingly delicious!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Salted Chinsuko was like cookies and cream, with the Chinsuko mixed in with the thick ice cream. The saltiness that was sometimes felt was a nice accent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The “Salted Chinsuko” is not only available for a limited time, but can be eaten at any time of the year!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The rich taste of the red sweet potato cheese biscuit is irresistible!<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The “Beni Imo Cheese Biscuit” was a collaboration with PUZO, an Okinawan-born cheesecake store, which also has a store in Aeon Lycoming, Okinawa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Unfortunately, this one is only available for a limited time, until December 31, but it will end when it is gone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This one was even richer, with the sticky sweetness of “Chura Koi Beni” red sweet potatoes from Kumejima matched perfectly with the cold ice cream, and the richness of the cheese cookie added to it. I want to try it again today!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Incidentally, “Shio-chinsuko” and “Beni-imo Cheese Biscuit” are also sold at stores outside of Okinawa. I have confirmed the Yebisu Garden Place store, but some other stores may not have them depending on the size of the store.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Looking at the Blue Seal ice cream lineup, it is cool to see that there are other attractive lineups such as local ones like Seekwasa Sorbet and Ryukyu Royal Milk Tea, and American flavors like Banana Susanna and San Francisco Mint Chocolate!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There is a theme park called “Blue Seal Ice Park” next to the main store, where the company was founded in Urasoe City, Okinawa Prefecture. It is a place that Blue Seal fans should visit at least once.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the park, visitors can learn about the history of Blue Seal Ice Cream, take a glass-viewing tour of the factory, experience making their original ice cream, and experience a -20\u00b0C freezer, all for a fee.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There is also a space to eat ice cream bought at the store next door! Why don’t you enjoy eating ice cream while relaxing in the Blue Seal World?<\/p>\n\n\n\n
